S/D Build. Comments/propositions please
If you are planning on playing around with multiple enemies in WvW, I would suggest packing some defensive gear in your mix. Toughness/Power/Precision would be a good addition to mix in here and there, still very offensive, but provides some defense too. Also Power/Tough/Vit would be good too, to have a larger health pool to work with.
And not sure if that is the right build or not…it is P/D on the main hand for the link you shared.
Anyways, if you are interested, I have a gameplay vid of my S/D in sPvP. There is a part where I take on two warriors and a thief, down the warrior (and eventually finished him) without dieing myself. S/D offers a great burst of damage with quickness procing, especially when they are dazed, so you do not have to worry about them attacking you for a breif period of time.
I edited my post. Should be fine now. I’m gonna whatch ur vid, thx alot
Alright, it loaded the proper build this time [: I feel like your 10 into acrobatics is a waste for your build, you are gaining 8% speed increase in stealth for a major trait, it is not a good exchange when running the 25% signet. Also I find the Trickery line for the +3 intiative is hardly worth it also. You have plenty of initiative management to make up for that with your many stealth options (heal, refuge for multiple pulses and blinding powder). On my build I personally run 30 into crits and 10 into the power for mug, and the executioner trait for much more damage output.
Yes what Binary Said! If you are running Signet of Shadows you don’t need fleet shadow. You can not exceed 33% movement speed. From testing fleet shadow really only works in combat.
Sinnastor{Warrior}Sinnacle{Mesmer}Sintacs
{Thief}
I personally cant play without feline grace, I think it is just too powerful.
I actually give up executioner for it, with a 0/25/30/15/0 build, and it makes you very hard to kill between constant dodging and tons of regen in stealth.
Not having Mug sucks, but like I said, feline grace is awesome.
As for gear, I use mostly berserker with a few valk pieces so my HP isnt terrible. I usually have about 15k HP, 50% crit chance, 101% crit damage, 3200attack.
Sorry I couldnt check out your build, bad link.

Indeed, you can’t exceed 33% out of combat. In combat, it’s great if you’re using it in combination with something like D/P offhand, makes getting backstabs a lot less tricky on opponents with swiftness as the stealth provided from HS’s leap finisher is very short even when traited.
If you really want to keep 10 in Acro, go for vigor on heal instead, but as others said, it’s probably best spent elsewhere.

I agree about FG. It has ruined other builds for me and even other professions. FG is a terrible drug. I use a similar build but sacrifice 5 more in crit to get the 2 init/10. Slightly different gear that puts me at 44% crit chance (before conditionals), 81% crit dmg ~3200 power, 16,500 health and bit over 2500 armor. Seems like I’m less dmg and tad more survivable.
Hmm, I think Stiv and Stx know much more about PvE thieves than me. If you are going for sPvP (and possibly Wvw) I would lean more towards my build. Otherwise dodging is much more important in PvE, and also the extra dodging can be combined with the food for +100% might on dodge, and 40% endurance regeneration, making the build even more appealing and more powerful. In PvE it is not all about DPS, but surviving. What good is your DPS when you are dead?
And @Stx, copy and paste it into your browser, it should work fine.
Okay i see, interesting build.
My take on it is that either way it would only get stronger by going deeper into crit.
Im guessing you only have points in trickery because you really like caltrops on dodge, which can be useful and fun but I would cut that out. The extra 3 pts to initiative isnt necessary for s/d at all, that trait really only compliments spammy builds like death blossom, d/d burst, unload p/p etc.
Also, in my opinion, going 10 pts into acro is a waste compared to 10 into deadly for Mug. I would either go 15 deep to pick up the amazing feline grace, or not go in at all.
I feel that you would be stronger by dropping trickery and going 30 into crits for a big damage boost. 10/30/20/0/0 is a s/d spec with burst capability while keeping good regen in stealth, and I personally use a spec centered around survival which is 0/25/30/15/0.
Thx alot guys for all your comments. Im gonna try the Stx one, couse i feel it will be more my style than full dmg one
What Runes you’re using with that setup? I feel Runes of Air i will need to replace with something more accurate for this build.

I use Ruby Orbs because they are cheap and provide lots of offense stats.
For Spvp I use Divinity 6/6, but lately Ive been trying Ogre runes because that pet summon seems decent for damage while im stealthed.
Ye i just saw Ruby Orbs after i wrote last post and got like “wtf?! this alot better lol”
Thx again ! Its good to know that there are some S/D users
Not PvE at all really. Dodge is needed in WvW/sPvP even more than PvE. If you don’t dodge well you loose and having FG is sooo much more dodging it’s almost always up when you really need it. The extra 1500 health from taking it at bare minimum never hurts either.
I still find dodge spamming is much more useful in PvE than PvP. PvP is about well placed dodges, not dodge spamming. The reason why I got rid of FG is i never used it to its proper extent, I guess it just might be not in my play style.
I run 10/30/30/0/0
zerker armor / jewels
Para and rage sigil
Divinties
I find it a very good build. I used to run a dodge version of it, with in teh stealth tree. But i find the ability to endlessly cnd, while healing, i rarely have to full out of battle to heal.

This! Thank you, Stx for your advice. I am a level 80 thief and after trying numerous builds, gear, weapons, etc., I still couldn’t find a good mix. I used your suggestions last week, upgraded my armor (went with Knights Emblazened, though) and have been having the best time killing stuff. A million thanks to you and everyone else who put in their comments and advice.
is Sigil of Paralyzation even working with Daze?
i use S/D too and so far i hesitated to get the sigil since it says “stun duration” and not “daze duration”. Or does “stun duration” work with every kind of CC (knockback, knockdown, stun, daze, etc)?

I suggest you get 15k health 2400 armor (mix beryl gear/orbs with zerk).
That’s what I run, it saves your life and you still keep 3200 attack / 50% crit / 90 critdmg.
Going overboard with offense will not give the same benefits as having both a solid offense and defense imo.
