Hi!

I have been playing thief since the beta and pretty much every single weapon set and build. What I have yet to play (not just try, but really play) are S/D. But I am bit in the dark. The only time I have played with it was a long time ago when Larcenous Strike didn’t exist. I could use some pointers on how to think while using this awesome weapon set. I am most used to D/P, which has been my main set since launch, which has a completely different style of play.

I know how the skills work and all the technical stuff. But I could need help with when to use them. I feel like it is built around stacking might while evading all the big hits and just have good sustain since I am lacking burst. When I play it I try to stick to my target and auto attack and only use FS to evade or set up for LS.

Am I on to something?

That’s pretty much the basics. When engaging on an enemy try to use infil strike behind something you can use to Los so you can retreat and have a few seconds of breathing room if you need to. Imo what makes an sd thief average vs really good is how they use infil strike/return

My advice for succeeding with S/D:

1. Know when to get out of a fight (with infil)
2. Dodge everything you can (rolls, LS)
3. Try to clear poison before using Withdraw (I still struggle with this)
4. Use steal efficiently (interrupt heals, steal priority boons (might, stab etc)
5. Don’t underestimate CnD; Tactical strike is great skill that is underutilized
6. Use the Short bow for more than just movement (poison fields, cluster bombs) at proper times against select match ups
7. Standard thief match up knowledge – Honestly, I hate 1v1ing on a thief since one mistake can be the death of you. However, I still think it is important to know what match ups are manageable and what match ups are pretty much impossible.
