What’s this infamous S/D build everyone is talking about?

I played it for a while and thought it was decent, but I could never get over the lack of burst. So what makes it so popular now?

Some people (like myself) get bored playing a build focused on stealth and backstab. S/D is a functional alternative, and the only effective spec I can think of that never needs stealth to survive.

In the current mindless AoE/condition spam, it’s nice to be able to SR out of the multiple AoE fields that get dropped whenever a FOTM rolls up to the fight.

People hate playing against it because it requires timing, patience, and most of all understanding to properly counter. Nobody wants to roll a thief, copy/paste the spec from the boards, and screw around with it for an hour to figure out the rhythm – it’s easier to just cry on the boards until it gets nerfed.

If you’re a thief and haven’t
pre-ordered HOT at this point,
save yourself the money and don’t bother.

The boon stripping on larcenous strike makes it a good counter to many builds.

Just watch some of Jumper X’s video’s. The S/D set isn’t a burst build, it’s a harass and boon strip set, with a built in condition removal to open up new builds (instead of relying on shadow arts).

If you time your auto attacks well enough after using a flanking strike, you can get some decent bursts.
