Just need to adapt to these changes!

And need more skillcap… fights become more longer but if do everything right & correctly count skills CD, thief still pretty cool. You have to be tricky and run becouse thief has the best healing and taking vigor for a lot of dodges.

Just practice thieves and you can win every class.

all they need to do is make larcenous strike rip two boons again and maybe make it hit slightly harder to adjust for the new frequency of use it’ll be getting from the fact it’s harder to chain/can’t be precasted now.

So take no trickery when trickery is the only reason thief is viable in high tier tpvp play? Makes no sense, then you have to realize that you are losing initiative because you arent taking the trickery line. Honestly you are losing dmg imo because trickery makes S/D work extremely with all the boon steal/rip, but thats a thing of the past and s/d is not viable in tpvp matches against good players I promise.

I agree with this a lot. There’s no point to having an ‘unblockable skill’, if you need to get a hit off, on a skill that can be blocked. When somebody is blocking, we basically don’t have access to our unblockable attack.

What a joke, I hope this is addressed.

If you punch in a wall , it blocks you , but you hit the wall .
If flanking is blocked , it hits , so the skill must turn into larcenous .
But if this change happen , prepare you to " stealh skills put revealed on block " , and honeslty it will be not so bad

If you redefined “Hit” to include blocks, you would have to redefine revealed to “Does damage from stealth” (Which may be the actual trigger, I don’t know).

Before the forum denizens whip out their torches and pitchforks, that was how thief was designed. Revealed is there to prevent thieves from dealing damage while invisible, and to put an artificial CD on their most powerful attacks (Stealth attacks).

It doesn’t matter if that “makes sense”, it doesn’t matter if you don’t think its fair. Thief was designed to get revealed only if they did damage while in stealth – their damage, their utilities, their heals, everything a thief does was designed and balanced around that idea. Changing that to includes blocks would bury the class even further.

If you’re a thief and haven’t
pre-ordered HOT at this point,
save yourself the money and don’t bother.

You did 0 damage. That is mechanically different than “the attack was blocked and did No damage.”

Glad you see it my way bro. I did recently pick s/d backup even though I still thinks it’s terrible in many ways, I would much rather play it than d/p. For me d/p is not my style never was and I never liked it, so I’d rather suck with the weaponset I have a hate/love relationship with than play the less action oriented d/p.

Don’t get confused.

If I target a Warrior using Endure Pain, I still deal damage since it is not blocked, dodged or evaded assuming I did not miss.

What Endure Pain does is it makes the Warrior immune to damage. Meaning even if my damage is one gazzilion, Endure Pain will simply treat it as if it deals zero damage.

yea I started playing S/D in pvp like 90% of other people and actually started playing it in WvW after seeing some of your videos, and was starting to really enjoy it there until the patch hit! Now why would one ever use this in WvW (or pvp)? Opening burst cut in half, and access to the most useful and damaging ability cut to a third vs many players. For WvW I switched to the ever reliable D/D, which luckily is still awesome (esp. for hunting rangers)

If they just listened to the community nerfed feline grace/perm-vigor they could’ve added more counter-play to our spec while letting us retain the damage a thief needs to be relevant. I don’t want to completely give up on the sword (jormag’s too sexy), going to start practicing S/P.

The sad part about all of this is The launch version of flanking strike is better then this. and that is including the pathing errors. Oh well im on an AA break anyway. maybe in 6 mnts they will set it back or more then likely nerf it again.

(for those of you who don’t know, the dodge animation is the same as now but after 1/4* of a second it would start the larcenous strike animation. you could dodge out of it if you wanted.)

Its a good lesson though. Never ask for a bug fix it just leads to 2 years of hilarity.

trickery is pretty much undroppable. each point not invested in trickery hurts like no other traitline thanks to how innately useless our only profession mechanic is without it (alongside the oh so necessary initiative boosts of course). trickery honestly is the only traitline where each trait level is actually worthwhile.
