Seeking weapon advice for PvE Thief
There’s two prominent builds (as far as I can tell these days) depending on your playstyle and content desire.
There’s the Zerker which is D/D or D/P based on preference.
Or there’s a Tanky Condi with D/D Shortbow.
I play the latter, and its really preference and content. If you don’t plan to do high level Fractals, then I’d tell you to give the Tanky Condi a try in Exotics before you sink money into Ascended gear.
D/P is mainly a pvp and exploration PvE weapon set.
Sword/Pistol and Dagger/Dagger are the meta dungeon weapons along with Shortbow (which is meta for EVERYTHING).
I like running Sigil of Fire and Sigil of Bloodlust on my weapons for PvE.
Zerker is still the PvE meta for thief.
If you have the luxury of choosing the recommended order for acquiring ascended gear is:
Weapons
Trinkets
Armor
If you get super into dungeons, you may want to consider picking up a Sigil of Night, as almost every dungeon is considered night.

Personally, I run S/P and Shortbow, I find it give you a lot of opportunities to stay alive! The blind on S/P 5 is great for slower swinging enemies and the evade on S/P 3 is great for DPS and has a long evade period. I go for air and fire for sigils for the extra DPS.
I mainly use the Shortbow for kiting when my unskilled capabilities have gotten me in a bit of a state, or in areas where the mob density is high, the bounce shot on SB1 is great for proccing Sigils so I use fire for even more AoE and Blood for a spot of extra heal.
Traits wise I run 2/6/0/6/0 with Mug, Practiced Tolerance, Crit haste, Invigorating Precision, Power of Inertia, Hard to Catch and Assassins reward.
I know it’s not the current flavour but this allows me to run 90% berserker gear 10% valkeryie and stay alive, even in situations where a lot of guys in Silverwastes are sat on their backsides.
I also run the unpopular signet of malice, the ever popular S/P faves, shadow refuge, shadowstep, signet of agility and dagger storm.
There’s a hell of a lot of heals in there I know but its been my most successful build in PvE so far, a good combo of damage and survivability and a few get out of jail free cards. Works well in every area so far.
If you get in a tangle you have a lot of options, Mug in and S/P 3 will return a fair chunk of health or get in a group of mobs and hit dagger storm for a big heal as well. Or bug out with shadow step and kite sideways with the bow and swiftness.
