As I would be alright with staff or rifle(but prefer OH Sword), I’d rather not guess as to what which one we will “wecieve”(5x fast), BUT I would love to speculate on what types of skills and utilities you think thief might get.
In looking back on what the thief has and what they might “learn” in the jungles, I kept coming back to more stealth/camo/shadowy stuff. Regardless of weapon type, I believe Anet will probably emphasize on that. I would like to see a/some block(s), or another shadow step or two, but I would also want to see them give clones/summons another stab on thief. Either in the form of a skill,utility,trait, all three?, but adds to shadow trap and TG.
Tldr Do you think shadow clones/after image would be fun on thief? What type of skills would you like to see on them?
My first thoughts were in form of traits, creating a clone(s) on weapon swap and one on stealth.
On weapon swap: Gain stealth and leave behind shadow/clone that retains old weapon and auto attacks on until destroyed
On stealth: Create a shadow clone for every second you are in stealth. Shadow clones cause blind,torment, or confusion when hit.
Wouldn’t mind seeing an on dodge/evade similar to mesmer.
Just ideas. No numbers

- a spear #3 style block and retaliate attack or a knockback.
- Auto-Attack with Daze. I don’t see a staff that causes bleeding or poison… very op tho.
- a gap closer. HeartSeeker type.

Maybe for the daze aa it could be in a chain like daggers. It would take like 2.5 seconds to cast. It’d make people not just spam a line of 1 attack (heartseeker) then sit in aa since people would have to cast a spell to prevent the 2.5s cast time, and when you need it you’d let the chain go off. Might be hard to implement but idk.

Yeah I don’t want to be completely OP. I agree with the chain, just a dagger AA with lotus strike inflicting poison at the end. Except it’s just daze.

The daze should also be like 1/4s so that it’s just a quick interrupt. A 3 second daze be or whatever would be op af
There are 3 areas which could bring something missing.
Survivability for thief (blocks, evades, lifeleech) Some of them are already there but usually not in versatile form. You either have to play this one traitline and one weapon set or you can’t have them.
Reducing effectiveness of enemies. Either enhancing CC (longer duration, reward for interrupting and not just spam) or conditions (for example blind has 2 stacks).
Team support through active play. Something like “mark for death” when all allies will do more damage for few sec on some target, target gets revealed debuff or strips all boons from target.
Those are just some wild ideas some of them probably OP, but I guess some of them would be more interesting than skills and traits no-one ever takes because they are useless (yes there is plenty of them even after recent trait shaving).
Edit: Interesting idea would be traits changing damage component of old skills, like with this trait Heartseeker will do only 40% damage but applies 2 stacks of torment. Pistolwhip does less damage but applies vulnerability. Shadowshot teleports enemy towards you (like buggy scorpion wire). Cluster bomb flight speed increased by 50% but can’t be exploded anymore,…

I know AI(user summoned) in this game has been hit or miss, but, can’t see why more, short term, clone AI is a prob. Thieves used to be a hard counter to Mesmers. Though it would be funny to mimic the mimics. No?

As much as I’d love to see mesmers cry about us getting clones, I’d hate to see Thief and Mesmer drift even further closer (with Thief just being a worse version of Mesmers with a different flavor).
But we are only “worse” bcuz Mesmers if fotm right now. I would like to see a more pronounce rivalry between the two lol. Give me clones. Give me conflict.
I’m now imagining a thief looking at a mesmer’s shatter skills going “Why the hell would you blow them up?”
I’d like to have clones we could switch places with.
It would also add some new kind of mobility.
The moment someone focuses on, you permute with your clone and the clone takes the hit.
A clone is closer to your chosen target than you, you permute with it.
