I’ve looked at the mesmer’s OP port/blink ability for a while, and it just gets slightly annoying to see that the thief’s port ability is so useless in terrain.

Why must I always port 2 feet in front of me because a small rock is in the way? Why is it I can port from LA bank to across the river, but can’t port down some stairs without getting stuck on them? The problem is not that I can’t port up mountains, but thakittens use is so inconsistent.

To me it makes the skill absolutely useless (besides the stun break) as you can’t even use it with the majority of the game’s terrain.

You can only port to a point if there’s a direct route to it nearby that doesn’t require jumping. It’s as easy as that.

You can only port to a point if there’s a direct route to it nearby that doesn’t require jumping, without abrupt changes of elevations, don’t crosses a stair with a +45% angle, don’t find a peeble nor a tree chunk on the route, you are wearing your red socks of luck, and the gods of Teleportania approve your shadowstep attempt. It’s as easy as that.

If you made it, praise the gods, for tomorrow your attempt may not work, even if you try from exactly the same origin to the same target.

There is a difference in functionality between Mesmer’s blink and Thief’s shadow step?

That is just plainly false. My shadowsteps fail on flat ground porting half the distance they should all the time

They “fixed” shadowstep pathing around a month ago, before the balance patch, since then your lucky if shadowsteps work 50% of the time (in wvw, i cant speak for all the spvp maps, havnt played those much lately)

I find the best place to demonstrate how easy it is to break shadowstep is in Divinity’s Reach, from the hallway just north of the bank (minister’s waypoint?) into the garden area. There is a cracked tile that can be walked over just fine, but always breaks shadowstep.

Hilarious!
