Nowadays in WvW I tend to run into lot of experience players that know how to chase me when I use shadow refuge. lol, so I usually throw out Shadow Refuge following up with Hide in shadow running in the opposite direction and spamming heartseekers into smoke screen to maintain stealth. Soo many people are familiar with SR that I barely ever get to maximize its potential.

Yeah, been using SR as a diversion now and then too. Not always a good option, but sometimes it pays off.

I find that Blinding Powder works a lot better, since you already have superior movement as a Thief. You can get far away on just Blinding Powder and Infiltrator’s Strike alone. And unlike Shadow Refuge, Blinding Powder also works great as an offensive skill. I really only use Shadow Refuge to stealth dolyaks and golems.

Great for diversion & distraction!

Most AoE classes will blow skills on it when they notice it. A good way to take offense away from an opponent. Also it really messes with them if you backstab them before Shadow Refuge field dissipates. Sometimes causing them to think there is more than one thief in the fight. I use this to confuse and intimate.

Usually a tough choice. Using it as a diversion usually doesn’t pay off unless you are severely outnumbered.

Agaisnt one or 2 opponents it’s usually better learning to dodge inside the circle.

Do you see a mesmer?… Is he carrying a Greatsword?… Is he smiling?… He wants to use illusionary Wave on your Shadow Refuge !!!!!

Better be prepared

I do that a lot, mostly to get away but sometimes to get a bunch of players to blow their AoE so I can more easily tackle each one.

drop SR → cast HiS → keybind lookback and shadowstep behind them while HiS still casting → spam emotes.
