Shadow shot, hidden thief, backstab
It’s mostly likely caused by having auto attack enabled. What happens is that you are attacking the instant you complete the steal, and that reveals you. Turn off auto attack and I bet your problem will be solved.
If you have mug, you’ll start auto attacking directly after you steal too.
Ferg Crossing
For a second I couldn’t recall a place to toggle auto-attack in the options, but you probably meant the ctrl+click method that makes the first weapon skill an auto-attack. Is that the only thing that turns auto-attack off? I’d check but I’m not around a computer with GW2 on it.
Hidden Thief gives you stealth when you steal, not shadowstep. Shadow shot would not be putting you into stealth in the first place

Isn’t hidden thief specific to stealing? If it’s activating on shadowsteps, not just stealing, S/* would become very powerful combined with infusion of shadow to basically enter and exit combat for a total of 1 initiative.

Steal only. Imagine gaining stealth on every Infiltrators Strike, would be a Backstab or Tactical Strike submachine gun with enough initiative management.

Infiltrator’s strike would hit and give you the revealed debuff, hardly something you’d like.

Assuming you’re in range. If you aren’t, it would still shadowstep you closer to the target without actually hitting them. In any case though, the shadow step backward would stealth you creating a powerful escape mechanic (stunbreak, stealth, condition cure all in one)
While I wouldn’t mind stealth on Shadow Return, I think that would be somewhat too much of a buff; sword #2 to give stealth more easily and for less initiative then Cloak and Dagger. Plus you now have the off-hand free to wield a pistol (head shot, black powder, pistol whip) and you’d still have access to stealth.
But hey, I think I could live with my thief going into stealth with every shadowstep ….
Stealth on Shadowstep would be great, but honestly overpowered. Suddenly the following skills give you Stealth with just 1 trait:
- Infiltrator’s Strike (and Shadow Return).
- Infiltrator’s Arrow.
- Shadow Strike.
- Shadow Shot.
- Shadowstep (and Shadow Return).
- Infiltrator’s Signet.
- Ink Shot.
Not to mention that all them would return 2 initiative with Infusion of Shadow :O
CnD no longer would be so great as it would be the hardest stealth to access from our repertory.
