Shadowstep would actually be useful in PvP if....
I don’t know, I saw a sick PvP video posted in these forums a few days ago with a Thief in I think SPvP using it VERY well! He got behind people alright, now like shadow stepping behind them, but I bet you they never saw it coming.
I so like the idea of using it, but how often do you really get a set up to use it how you want to is my problem, that and it seems that when I am ready to use it, it has already reset on me >.<
Sounds like you meant Infiiltrators signet. It is probably the most under-estimated utility we have. Knocked off of a height? Just use it to get right back up again. It also penetrates floors and walls so you can recover and get right back in. And againt a Warrior who stuns you because he uses quickness for 100 blades you can use the stunbreaker and attack him while he takes 50% more dmg from his quickness.
Many uses for it. Also, the Shadowstep utility is the best utility the Thief has.
Cause you know… a 900 range teleport is totally useless… especially one that is guaranteed to give you a utility skill.
It’s not hard to move a little to the side to be able to hit the ‘Back’ hitbox, stop being lazy.
New Video Coming Soon.

Nor the signet infiltrator, steal or shadowsteps can pass walls or floors.
It’s pretty useful when someone is running away :P
Naturally, in ideal world, I’d prefer if our shadowsteps would’t have such silly limitations as “may only teleport where normal movement is possible.”
But as it stands right now, I’d be happy if it would at least teleport my thief somewhere, instead of blinking him one spot.
If you have so big issues with warrior bursting you with hundred blades, or a thief with pistol whip, spec into deep Acrobatics and pick Hard to catch.
Keep in mind, that shadowstep also clears knockdown and immobilize, not only stun. Anyway, you can chase your target and get stopped by his friend, so it makes sense to break stuns.

Oh I guess I am just imagining things when I run down the ramps in clock tower to recover below and then use Infiltrators Signet to instantly get back up to my target.

If that is happening, it is a bug that will sadly be fixed. In beta, they removed the ability for Shadowstep to pass through any wall or floor.
It’s a pathing issue not a line of sight issue. You can use the shadowstep mechanic to get somewhere you normally could walk, so it is possible to do this, although it seems not all mechanics work the same – Steal for example seems not to fire without LOS. Shadow Trap doesn’t worry about LOS it seems.
Ink Shot(Thief) and Ride the Lightning(Elemetalist) is sofar the last 2 skills thats bugged in that matter that they can pass areas they shouldnt.
Shadowstep is a great idea. It removed 3 conditions and gives you 2 stun breaks. The issue with it is that the range is way to short. Your dodge can cover a little over half of the full range of SS. It really is only good for the stun break and the condition but I think it needs a bigger range.

Range 1200.
If you meant the SS on infiltrators – it would be completely overpowered if it was 1200 range since it is spammable.
I think there is some confusion about what can and can not go through walls (even as a bug). Shadowstep can not go through walls (or over hills, or over gaps in the ground, or up onto ledges, or down off of ledges.), but Shadow Return doesn’t seem to have this issue.
eg I can Shadowstepon the edge of a cliff, teleport into the same spot I am standing, jump off a cliff and attack something, then Shadow Return back to the top of the cliff. It will go through walls/floors etc as well.
I assume Shadow Return is “broken”. Just like Ink Shot cough.
But problem with Shadow Return is, that it can quickly get useless if you run around a corner after a “fix”.

Depends on the situation. If the shadowstep can path to the location without the need to jump and without going too far around sometimes it will still work. I’ve had a few times where I was able to shadowstep to someone on a platform directly above me when the ramp up was right next to me as well. Its not 100% consistant though, you’ll note some cliffs you can shortbow accross even though you’d need to cover almost twice the range on foot to cross them and other times you’ll hang up on a 2 inch ripple in the ground.
The thing that really bugs me about Shadowstep, though, is that I always thought it would be a cool skill to make us actually…well..thieves in WvW. Shadowstop up the side of a wall, off a wall, etc. Get into the fort and disrupt people inside while everyone else wails on the door outside.
Guess there is no such luck.
