Shadowstepping Vs Guardian Traps
Mmm, it’s always fun to try avoiding that trap. The actual damage portion isn’t quite aligned right with the traps radius, so you can dodge the trap, and still get hit by the kitten thing, or like above. Where you Shadow Step/Infiltrators Arrow/Destroy Shadow Trap/ETC over the kitten thing, expecting not to be hit by it, only to be hit by it TWICE if you move across it, once if you move out of it, simply because the game uses pathing to determine if you can even move to your designated destination. Poor coding, really.
oh, yeah! thats f*** annoying. sometimes i cant even see it because of all the flashy visual effects.
also range skills that have multiple projectiles like rapid fire, ele’s lighting strikes, and war’s rifle that follow you and stay on you upon activation. even if it was less than a second when entering stealth.
Has anyone found a moderately successful strategy for DHs’ traps (as power D/P)?
I reflexively pop Bandit’s Defense, which is invariably a mistake – kitten you unblockable CC!
I don’t know how effective blinds are against traps, but could shadowshotting in be useful at all? Afterwards, evading or shadowstepping out? (I don’t know the impacts of any of these.)
Blind will make one trap miss once, and if you accidentally put more than a couple Conditions on the Guardian, chances are their passive Smite Condition (If they took the trait) will proc and remove it anyway. Aside from that it’s about dodging… or somehow forcing them to waste their traps.
My main issue though outside of the OPs subject, is the fact that with the Daze on trap trigger… Thieves don’t have reliable applications of Stability, the only way being to steal it, or use Dagger Storm. And who in their right god kitten mind would use that anymore. So fighting a Guard, in addition to the trap shenanigans, they can Daze lock you harder than a Interrupt Mesmer.

Neah, the only way to go over trapper DH with power D/P Sb thief is to play defensively, dodge through the trap, get out of LoS or evade while using poison with Sb, or enter stealth with D/P, and after the traps disappear or the DH leaves the area you switch to burst mode back without overcommiting. I think there was a better option to kill them by using P/P instead of Sb though… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCRDUYz87oU
Test of Faith should be Evadeable, right? So you could escape it via Staff 3/5, as long as you can break the Daze? (In addition to just dodging out.)
Agreed that shadowsteps seem like they should also work. But I think the explanation we’ve been given for the wonky way they behave is that a shadowstepping character is still physically crossing the distance, they’re just doing it faster than the eye can see or some nonsense like that. Shadowsteps are not teleports, basically, even though they look exactly the same as teleports.

If they’re a GS trapper use Shadowshot a lot, the blinds help a ton. Bound absolutely destroys DHs in my experience. As for shadowstepping; you want to dodge out of Test of Faith’s circle, and then shadowstep away.
Dunno if they’ll work for you, but these tricks(?) let me kitten the crap out of almost any DH I come across.
