Hello everyone.
I’m looking for a great D/P roaming build , so I ask you if you could post your Build and explain the traits , the rune and the gear of course. By the way if you could explain how you play with your initiative , some rotations and stuffs like. I’m not that experienced in WvW but I’m rank 60 PvP , I’d like to play WvW now but , well , I’m not good as I am in PvP.

Thanks a lot , Twinkye.

D/P Shadow Arts
2/6/6/0/0
0/6/6/2/0
2/0/6/0/6

D/P Trickery
2/6/0/0/6
6/0/2/0/6

The major difference between pvp/wvw is disengaging when the battle is lost because you simply won’t be running into even numbers and many times will run into a zerg which means stealth and escape also perplexity dire and other BS condi builds are mostly an impossible battle against condis unless you have full Shadow Arts and skill

Learn to reset and make sure you look behind you and around you at all times for incoming groups and have your escape options planned before engaging

I recommend valk/cav armor with strength/pack/hoelbrek runes + all zerk trinkets and weapons

2/6/6/0/0 or 2/0/6/0/6

I play 2 6 0 0 6 ogre, full zerker everything for WvW solo roaming.

Is it frustrating sometimes? Yes. Rewarding once you get good at it? Yes.

As for explaining why? 2 in DA for mug (which is great since it gives you access to poison on your opponent while doing dmg and healing you), 6 in CS for additional dmg along with the ability to get access to haste or additional hp, and then trickery because its crazy strong line and makes your steal extremely useful.

For the gear, basically zerker is just more fun for me. A little valk in there would probably be optimal, but its your choice. If you put a lot more valk into it I’d maybe say go Rage or Pack runes over Ogre, but Ogre are probably your best choice.

Just get used to being outnumbered and learn the terrain and you’ll be fine on whatever D/P build you choose.

That’s the build I use. I’m still relatively new to Thief but this build has served me very well. Lots of health means I can deal with conditions more easily and a ton of ferocity means my critical attacks are pretty nasty.

Again, I’m still pretty new to Thief so I don’t claim this build to be amazing. But I do very much enjoy it and it works well for me.

Hi again mates.

first of all if the build is anything other than 62006, 26006, or 60206 i wouldnt recommend using it on d/p. any build that doesn’t heavily invest in both trickery and offensive traitlines is bound to fail because of how crucial high damage output is on d/p, defense through offense (they cant do damage to you if they’re already dead).

given you feel like you dont do enough damage, i’m going to assume this build that this “master thief” gave you wasn’t one of the builds listed above so my best recommendation is to stop using it. all three of the builds above are very skill reliant though, but do they do reward your skill far more than shadow arts builds ever could, making them the best builds available for d/p thieves.

and for mesmers and eles, mesmers should come easily as thief hard counters mesmer generally speaking, though in wvw roaming you’re sure to find more PU mesmers as you would find more SA thieves. PU mesmers can be annoying to fight but their patterns become predictable, and once you catch their rhythm you can find when the best time to interrupt it is. this is where trickery becomes indespensible, the boon rip is very necessary to fight PU mesmers effectively, protection is the bane of all power builds and luckily bountiful theft has a priority to steal it and give it to you. using Headshot is also pretty necessary to interrupt some of their stealth skills like Mass Invisibility, but for the most part you can just out-stealth PU mesmers easily; it’s just better to prevent them from even entering stealth as to avoid them getting any boons.

now eles i find in wvw roaming are usually of the bursty kind thanks to how difficult celestial stat gear is to get in pve, however there are some celestial eles out there and they can be hell to fight. d/d + 00266 is overpowered regardless of the stats behind it though, as has been pointed out numerous times even by top elementalists themselves, so zerker d/d is still very viable. the best thing to do is attack and go in and wait until they pop armor of earth and then steal to them, ripping the stability and protection from it can be the difference between a win and a loss. it’s also very recommended that you land their steal skill, Icicle, on them right after they come out of water attunement. the chill will ruin their attunement swapping and they become very kitten at this point. lastly, avoid fire attunement at all cost as 75% of d/d ele’s damage comes from the ridiculously strong skills like fire grab and drake’s breath.

the last kind of ele is usually s/f fresh air, which can burst you down incredibly fast so you need to have strong reflexes to handle them. the main thing to watch for is Obsidian Flesh, best thing to do is steal to them and attack them to force them to use it and then stack stealth just to wait it out. from there, open from stealth with the Shadow Shot + Backstab combo to blind them and then Black Powder on top of them to nullify more of their burst. a lot of the times they’ll pop Arcane Shield which is best countered again by stealthing and waiting it out, or simply autoattacking through it while in Black Powder. again, the same technique of using their steal skill right after they leave water attunement to chill them can cripple the ele harshly. playing against s/f is like dancing on the blade of a knife, one tiny misstep and you’re dead.
