What is this about. Cluster bomb was our only 1200 range skill across all weapons. It totally screws over thieves in WvW. Why???? It better be in preparation for rifle or something that has 1200 range.

I can just picture the person coming up with the idea in said meeting and everybody nodding, yeah great idea X – you really thought that one all the way through, and considered the impact it will have across aboard to the Thief class. Uh… Rangers just got SB nerfs to 900 range across the board too, you’re not the only one suffering from this kitten and that is one of our main consistent damage weapons and it was one of our ONLY good weapons in WvW.

If they were thinking cluster bomb spamming was a problem why not increase initiative cost to 4 instead of nerf the range it’s already slow as heck? I don’t play pvp that much but IMO it’s not a problem in pve or wvw..

This among other nerfs – s/d – has me downright steamed. I rarely use the shortbow, but do keep it handy in case of a siege fight so I have some way to do damage. This nerf to cluster bomb range makes shortbow effectively useless in a siege situation.

Yeah, good thing Ranger doesn’t have any other weapon that hits from 1200+…. you can still effectively AoE and attack siege among other things with longbow… not to mention offhand weapons can be traited to 1200 I believe. Thief has practically nothing now! I’ll just stop here since my sarcastic kitten attitude will only grow with folks making responses like this.

I can’t agree anymore with this. Leaps shouldnt match distance with a ranged weapon, at least no so close, even realizing the purpose is gap-closer.

1200 range! It moves like lighting and does super high damage and is a blast finisher! So OP! /sarcasm

The nerf does not make any sense and I am actually pretty kitten ed by it. We got some good buffs, but a lot kicks.

The nerf wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t come out of left field, had a trait to at least move the range back, increased the range of at least the autoattack and/or maybe #4… or even pistol, or they could have just left it alone and increased the initiative cost by 1 or even 2. Yeah I would be willing to spec into something that allowed us to increase the range at our choice. I have had such a hard time explaining to pugs that yell at me for getting in too close and telling me to just go max range with my pistols. Not happy with a bunch of the changes that this patch has brought us.

I’m thinking maybe its because with detonation, it can reach a greater distance depending on your detonation height, which would allow 1 or 2 clusters to reach 1500 plus range. Not sure why this would be a severe problem. Anyways. Life moves on. It’s so slow at 1200 anyways. I think a person could regenerate before the next one hits anywayd

so what the skill is uber slow you could outrun it in combat mode and doge orblock etc. none of anets team plays a thief main ive heard so prolly hwy. im ready to quit this game. its getting boring and dulled/dumbed down. i miss being able to do fun stuff….shadowstep up stairs/hills. stuff like that. no range on shadow return. things that arent killing people are really OP are getting nerfed. weakness on sword every 20 secs? wtf is that. yeah like thats so helpful lol. id rather ust take it off and add 5% dmg to the sword.

@dina no shortbow should be at 900 range. warriors/guardians/rangers can leap farther. cluster bomb is worst nerf bc it is our only 1200 range attack. its suuuuuper slow so its not like it wasnt 1200 for a reason. and we cant fire another til the 3 secs are up and it hits lol. so cant spam it.

I’m upset at this as well. I loved launched the cluster at 1200 before I ran into 900 range. Gave like an extra burst of damage or something.
The ONLY thing I could possibly think that would even remotely justify dropping the range to 900 would be to reduce the maximum “flight” time of the bomb. Making it slightly more effective in dps. But, even at 900 range, it takes too long to land and explode.

When they said they wanted to make other weapons more mobile I didn’t realize they would completely destroy the short bow. NO ONE HAS EVER CONPLAINED ABOUT THE kittenING SHORT BOW!! Wtf Anet!?

First they kitten up trick shot, and now they destroyed our ability to use the short bow in WvW Zergs or sieges. What’s next? Cut the range on infiltrators Arrow in half, remove the blast finisher on Cluster Bomb, make trick shot hit only one target and cut the poison field in half?

No one have asked for these changes, so wtf is up? And when will a dev show up in our forum and give us some sort of explanation to this bullkitten?

Yea this change doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me… My only guess is that the dev’s decided that longbows have 1200 range, therefore it just makes sense that shortbows should have a shorter range – aka 900 hence the range nerfs for both thief and ranger. Lets consider this:

PvP: don’t pvp alot so maybe someone can help me out here, but i never really saw 1200 range on a slow moving easily avoidable projectile to be mega OP at 1200 range

PvE: don’t think pve should really ever be the basis for massive balance changes imo, dungeons and pve content across the board is just EZ and the classes excel in different areas.

WvW: This is where the cluster bomb range nerf really hurts the most. As others have said, cluster bomb allows you to contribute in tower/keep engagements, and it allows you to contribute most reliably in larger zerg fights. Now we will be completely useless in siege situations other than the occasional unreliable scorpion wire. We will be virtually useless/more of a liability in zerg fights other than dagger storm and potentially venom sharing (although you give up quite in survivability to go down this route). We are the only class now that i can think of that does not have a 1200 ranged weapon option. Kinda sux bad. And if this is their mentality for the change, how come there still remains discrepancies between scepter ranges for say, guardian and mesmer?

If this is not their approach to the balance, then i would sure as hell like to know why they felt this change necessary. For the mean time, i’ll give the new changes a try, but most likely will hold my thief strictly for roaming parties in wvw. Necro and guard got some cool buffs, might as well play my alts instead.

of nerfing a slow flight-slow arced; only weapon skill of thieves to go 1200;
unspammable at that range CB …

shouldn’t you be allowed at times when you’re low on health, go on range?
shouldn’t you be allowed to go on range on say.. walls?
since every other classes classes have 1200 ranged weaps?

so you’re saying that a specific class should only go melee all time, while
others can switch as the situation suits it?

and since you’re so already good killing thieves,
even with this already weak weapon that got nerfed yet again,

Have you tried to Steal from wall or on top of a wall? I am sure you have, what happens? Failed!!!…

You stay on the wall, or it ports you to the very bottom of the wall, where you might be able to hit someone with your 900 ranger Cluster bomb.. hahaha

It is funny people hate the perma stealth thieves in wvw. Yet every patch they end making it the preferred style. Why would I sit on a wall using a weapons that can’t hit anything when I could be down below messing with people.

Actually, when Traited, Longbow reaches 1500 Range, which effectively got buffed across the board… Consider this

Engineer – Pistols – Mid Range, (When traited 1000 Range), Rifles Long range
Warriors – Longbow – Mid Range (When traited 1000 Range), Rifles Long Range
Guardians – Scepters, Staff 1200 Range
Rangers – Longbow – Long range, Shortbows and Axes – Mid Range
Mesmers – Greatswords, Staves and Scepter – 1200 Range
Necromancers – Staves and believe Scepters – 1200 Range

Thieves – Pistols (Cant be traited for range, 900 Range), Shortbows (Cants be traited for Range 900 Range).

Nope, don’t see the justice…

My real complaint, is for a patch that sounded like they were trying to add more Diversity to classes, they seem to be Corralling folks into Cookie Cutter builds.

No, my argument is that as a thief you should be outside fighting with your melee weapons in a 1v30+ while theyre getting a hail of arrows sprayed on them because youre a badarse and you can get stomps on all the people the ACs down because you can stealth a lot. Or that you should be on an AC because its range and damage are vastly superior to what any class can dish out from on top of a wall. Being outside and getting stomps being the superior option if theres plenty of people around to man the ACs.
