Short bow thoughts
It still is a Trick shot, It tricks you to believe it register a hit.

lol, I was just gonna post something along that line, but yours is better.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
I haven’t played the patch yet.
But if the projectile speed doesn’t match that of the Ranger’s bows, then it should be increased to match it. It should never have been homing.
If it should never have been homing then it needed far more damage and a different name.
I read before patch about coming Mug nerf etc, i though “ah whatever” Its not like i ran one trick build that relies on super crits, mug damage etc – i play one of the rarer setups no one ever complained about and thats in most aspects inferior in effectively.
Then patch comes.
Mug nerf – does not really change much, few K less damage, but nothing game breaking.
Short Bow – even kitten NPCs managa to avoid the shots sometimes. Its basically insane DPS nerf in pvp – since most are constantly strafing and running around. Its not viable as main weapon now.
What does Arena try to do really? They talk about diversity of builds, and yet do everything for opposite.
If it should never have been homing then it needed far more damage and a different name.
This is correct. Not being homing is fine. Not being homing while doing abysmal damage even when it hits at slow speed with 900 max range is not fine.
If this was a ‘bugfix’, then Trick Shot needs a compensatory buff. It was already among the weaker autoattacks in the game.
Its just not right this way. I feel like they want us to be rangers, mug heals(which makes no sense), trick shot is like long bow#1. Now what ? We’re getting a pet?
I miss the thief as it was designed to be, the master of shadows.

IMO, I think Anet wants us to play SB after the fix so that they have numbers to compare. But the backlash is to stop playing it at all.
I like this approach better because they fix the bug first, then tweak it, rather than tweaking it based on a buggy skill.
Based on the tooltip, our SB AA suppose to fire at a faster rate than Ranger’s SB AA — but the reality is — based on my observation — we don’t fire the next shot until the first shot arrow have bounced 4 times. We should be firing arrows ever 1/4s and have it bounce all over the place.

Pretty lame but what can you do, want a ranged option and there is 3 options. P/P is a thief set in name alone. P/D got too much power put in 5-1 play, not enough anywhere else. SB still the most diverse and usable of em all.
Unless you want to slot double melee.

It’s really about the same as a ranger bow attack. I really don’t understand how so many people are so up in arms about this, lol.
Then again, thief has been one of the only classes that hasn’t had to worry about any missing projectiles when they are ranged, so I think it’s just a shock coming to players who have been sheltered in playing this profession for so long.
For almost every other class, it’s been understood that standing at max range increases the likeliness of your attack to be dodged. I mean, try a grenade engi for a while if you really think this is so bad.

I think you missed the point, its about thief mechanics and what seems to be coherent with the profession itself, a trick shot isn’t supposed to miss. But if you want to compare other classes, sure, lets say we get the dmg of a longbow ranger or a 100nades engi and we have a deal.
Trick shot was just fine, it did not need a buff or a nerf, they ruined the short bow.
No, it really needed a buff. The DPS was never that good.

I would argue that SB is not necessarily about damage to begin with – it’s a fantastic weapon because you get mobility, evades, poison and decent damage. I don’t think it needed a damage buff at all. Not sure about the nerf…
I’ve been hit by 16k dmg by 10 hits of trickshot, do the math there..1.6k per shot

I’m not even sure how that could happen… unless you were standing still, not dodging, and/or perma-stunned by another player.
Really?
oO
Infracted for asking if he was AFK or wearing no armor, okay then. Question stands, were you afk or wearing no armor?
Because otherwise that is not going to happen.

Screenshot of every variable involved or it didn’t happen.
I’m pretty sure that for this to happen in PvP every hit would need to be a crit, you’d have to be a glass cannon and the Thief would need a few might stacks.
all is vain
Death by a thousand cuts. That’s what is happening to the thief class. They are teetering on the edge of the grave right now. Some might argue they have already fallen in (they certainly have with respect to PVE).
This change was unnecessary because of how low the rate of fire is and how slow the projectile actually travels. They’ll need to increase both now to fix the weapon if they insist on keeping the homing out.
A sad state of affairs.

If you’re running glass cannon and the thief in question is running glass cannon then 1.6k crits are completely possible. That said, it’s your fault because if a thief doesn’t even have to swap from his bow to kill you, that’s on you.

What? Who says a trick shot isn’t supposed to miss?
I’m pretty sure that’s your wishful thinking-based assumption.
And comparing the damage of the short bow to other classes is pretty dumb. The short bow was never a primary dps weapon aside from AoE situations. Even if you did want to make that comparison, it’s laughably bad:
- The longbow for a ranger has one mediocre AoE on a cooldown. Thief shortbow deals drastically more AoE damage. The single target damage also doesn’t rely on pet with wonky AI staying alive and keeping up damage.
- 100nades engis have been dead for a while. Grenades are still the primary dps method of engineers, but that’s because it’s their only way to put out decent dps. Even then, the arc of grenades is a hundred times worse than a short bow. Also, since the 100nades build was decimated with the kit refinement nerf, you’ll never see an engi do burst comparable to a thief.
So if you don’t like how the short bow is now, fine. But don’t try to back it up with terrible misinformation like that. It doesn’t help your argument.
Trick Shot is supposed to miss? Thats rich.
Any projectile shouldn’t be 100% hit especially against a moving or strafing target.
What needs to happen are as follow;
1) Fix the activation time bug. If it stated 1/4s, it should fire every 1/4s.
2) Fix the projectile speed. It should hit more often even at the max of 900 range.
If those are fixed, the damage should increase even without changing the damage. Then they can balance it from that point on to however they want to — at least fix the bug first (same issue with the pistol, but that’s another topic).

They should probably increase the range on Trick Shot to 1200 as well. Not only does the Ranger Shortbow have 1200 on the auto, but so does Cluster Bomb.
