Greetings,

I’m really loving the Thief class, but I think the biggest complaint I have is that we don’t have a full long range weapon.

Shortbow is amazing, but it only has 1 skill with 1200 range. The rest are 900. And there’s no trait that can extend the range!

The only other class I’m aware of that is range challenged is the Guardian, and between the Staff and Sceptre they have like 5 abilities with 1200 range. Most other classes, like the Engineer or Warrior have traits to push them beyond to 1200 (Rifle and Longbow, respectively).

I think range really makes a playstyle difference, especially in WvWvW. The Thief is just less flexible in this regard compared to other professions. I wish the developers would look into this issue and either:

- Increase all Thief Shortbow skills to 1200.
- Offer a trait to increase all Shortbow skills to 1200.
- Let Thief’s use Rifles so that we can be Shadow Snipers!!!

I agree, i would prefer a longbow over rifle tho =P also, don’t forget pistols, would be awesome to have them up to 1200 as well

Dude, I’m thinking the same thing all the time.. I want to play a sniper Thief.

The problem is keep attack.

What do we do? Wait for that rare silly person to stand right on the edge?
Guardian was pushed up to 1,200 for real reasons. The reasons are the same argued now for thief. We need to be able to help attack people on keep walls.

Right now even the oil is difficult because to get in range you have to be in that danger zone right in front of the gate!

Absolutely agree. To be the only class without a 1200 range weapon(all we have is cluster shot, a good skill admittedly) when several other classes have 1500 range(engineers/rangers and eles with some skill) is pretty disheartening.
I think shortbow should be 1200 (perhaps through a trait of some kind) and leave pistols at 900 as the burst option.

Whoa, whoa. Have you played an engineer that uses a rifle before? Yeah, there’s a trait that increases your range, but every rifle ability other than the snare net is a melee attack. So basically the only use for that increased range is for the auto attack. Rifles are pretty useless for Engineers right now.

That being said, Engineers do have a good ranged attack setup with grenades (which have a trait that increases range by 25% as well as adding an extra grenade every throw). The downside is the ground targeting, which matters more for pvp than dungeons (though it matters a great deal on certain dungeons/bosses). I’m pretty good at it myself, but I admit it’s getting to be a little bit tiresome (actually that’s why I’m fishing around the other class forums).

Not saying Thief shortbow range shouldn’t be increased. Just saying that Engineers are surprisingly melee focused in a lot of their kits/weapon abilities (flamethrower, tool kit, bomb kit, rifle). Some people like Engineer pistols, though I find it a little underwhelming. It’s also shorter range. Really grenades are the main viable long range option for Engineers, and it has all kinds of issues with the ground targeting.

Shortbow is fine, the Cluster Bomb radius goes far beyond the targeting range you mentioned for one. The fact that we can get right up on the enemy walls, spam Cluster Bomb, while dealing damage and bleeds to players, as well as being the only class with absolutely no issue when running away from people who might jump down after you on the wall, makes the Shortbow just fine as is.

Heck I thought they dropped damage on the Cluster Bomb a while ago – maybe they did – but it’s back where it was and with top-end gear you will crit for 2.5-5k depending on the armor of the target. That’s AOE crits, mind you. Everything dies.

Also drop poison and Cluster Bomb into it to give Area Weakness. Nothing like turning that non-crit warrior into a glancing machine.
