Should Steal be a stunbreaker?
Honestly, I don’t see why it shouldn’t be.
I’ve been using steal as a pseudo escape tool when other things are CD. Daze from trickery has stopped combo follow ups and saved my kitten a few times but making it break stuns would make steal yet even more useful. It doesn’t seem that OP imo and honestly it would be a nice addition to have.
I don’t like how it would change the thief on thief math – it would turn counter-stealing from a sufficient if unremarkable response to being jumped on into a pretty nasty response – instead of trading dazes, the thief that steals second has a distinct advantage from breaking the first thief’s daze while their own application sticks.
I actually wish landing the steal wasn’t such a huge payload. The meta thief build has, what, 7 traits that trigger on landing a steal? I wish that power was more spread out, so it could be used tactically, instead of being this huge payload that you really have to land right or suffer a pretty big setback.

I agree with Ensign. What is te point of adding more things to steal ? We are dependant of it for so much already, we don’t need something added.
The only thing I would add to steal is the Coolddown reduction from trickery to avoid relying on trickery that much. The daze, I can make my way around it.

its our signature ability as a class, I don’t think you understand the state of this class right now because Anet will not change the utility of steal nor will they rework it. It’s bad enough we have to rely on it with all the passive blocks added to the game, Thief vs Thief is already unbalanced enough – its all about who gets first stealth attack/steal; you can literally chunk half their health from backstab and mug alone, its also undeniably difficult to predict when is the right time to dodge when you are revealed.
Oh let’s not stuff steal with even more functionality as it is. I would rather have them add another F3 or something.

I think I have a pretty good grasp on the state of the class, and I don’t think the weakness of the class is a lack of stunbreaks (and certainly not the lack of a stunbreak on the big payload the class delivers).
It’s important that the buffs the class gets are in places that matter, that it’s directed power instead of just random numbers going up. Thief is not a class that will be balanced and successful as a ‘big bag of stats’ that you beat your opponent over the head with. Adding a stunbreak to steal makes thief more powerful, sure…but is that really where you want more power?
For instance, in the case of steal, if I were to ask for anything on it I’d ask for it to be unblockable. That would be a substantial buff to steal in exactly the place I want it – bunker busting – by letting me interrupt channeled blocks and making all of my payload goodies a lot more reliable.
They gifted us with Bandit’s Defense and Steal is already extremely powerful. Not sure I would mess with it.

bandits defense is strong at 12secs when traited, then most thieves run shadow step. Adding a stun break to steal may make thief pretty much a stun break god.

This. Make F3 stunbreaker and stealth for at least 5 seconds. It’s so so sad that class whose trademark is (was?) stealth has no reliable baseline button to enter stealth.
