Should any other traits become baseline?
It would make anything with Mug and a dagger off-hand unplayable, because of the reveal caused by mug. So you couldn’t do a steal→CnD combo.
Currently the only weapon that gives sure-fire stealth is offhand dagger and we have Hide in Shadows, Shadow Refuge and Blinding Powder for stealth granting utilities.
If, after the update, you don’t take one of those options or spec in Shadow Arts then you will have no direct access to stealth. Hidden Thief is a trait that grants you three seconds of stealth when you steal and – when the new trait system comes around – it won’t be an option anymore so I suggest making it baseline. Stealth is a large part of the Thief’s identity and we even have an entire mechanic build around it. Not having access to stealth robs a Thief of that. It won’t break the game if it isn’t added back in but I really think that adding a two second stealth to base steal would be a good change when the changes come.

Hidden thief has been rolled into Descent of Shadows. You now release a Blinding powder when taking falling damage or when you steal, with an 8s ICD.
Let’s also note that “Sure fire stealth” is actually available with Pistol offhand – D/P has guaranteed stealth (unless HS is interrupted) by leaping through BP’s smoke field.
pre-ordered HOT at this point,
save yourself the money and don’t bother.

i actually hope anet is gonna fix the combination of hidden thief ( thats the stealth-steal-trait right? never used it so i dont have a clue) and mug – 60606 thieves could save a lot of initiative while also being able to deal quite some dmg with good/cheesy sustain
Long reach please
Last Refuge should be baseline.

I agree. I was hoping they would fix the SA cheesiness, but it’s not happening I’m afraid. Oh well…
I feel like they should make bountiful theft semi-baseline. Something like this:
Baseline: Steal steals a boon from a foe.
Traited: Steal an extra boon and grant vigor to allies.
It would also be cool if steal had condi transfer, but that might be a bit too strong, and increase over-reliance on steal.

That’s Bountiful Theft. And why should it? Traits are a way to specialize in some aspects of your profession, so it seems normal that you have to take traits to get a better steal.

Lol man, that would be so troll.
Also, revert the change back on Hard to Catch and make that baseline too!

roll into steal dis
Serpent’s touch
Kleptomaniac
Long Reach
I’d be happy with steal then as a class ability even when not invested into!
also…opportunist is gone so…hey baseline plz? might be pushing it there though

Woops, my bad. But yeah, that’s true. Just an idea.

I’d like that critical strikes 15% heal to be baseline. I like that alot, only been playing thief for like 2 days and the class is so easy in pve just spam 3 on s/p and get tons of health back.
previously rank 2 on old leaderboards
EG.secret.OG.NAVI.sorrychief
that would be too OP to be true

Long reach, even if its 50% (1,200 range) because steal without traits is pretty underwhelming.
Power shots because sb damage isn’t anything special and because this is about making traits baseline rather than removing them completely.
Quick pockets but weaker (1, maybe 2 instead of 3) because even though we don’t have cooldowns for every weapon skill we have a universal cooldown and do have weapon swap cooldown. Initiative has its upsides but when you don’t watch it you it really bites you back and weapon swap won’t save you like it does on some other professions.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
While it’s disgusting how cheesy 60606 will be after the expansion, don’t forget some kittenedly OP traits other classes are going to get.
Elementalists in particular, by going 00666 will be extremely hard to take down.
So I don’t know. While it’s undeniable that traitlines like Critical Strikes are going to be underwhelming PvP-wise, I’d refrain from saying how godly 60606 will be compared to other classes. On paper, every class is going to get HUGE buffs, so it’s all up to how much thief buffs are going to be compared to the other classes’ buffs.
It’s still to early to determine that, though, especially because we still don’t know “some” values of some traits, we still don’t know the statistics of the new amulets/gear, we still don’t know what weapon skills are going to be introduced and we still don’t know much about other specializations (not including the revenant).

I think Mug should be baseline. Steal is so empty without something harmful happening.
Plot Twist: Elder Dragons are massive robots created by the Black Lion Trading Company.
Think of the money they make off weapons and armor…
