I was wondering if there are other sigils that work just as well or better than the air and fire combo for d/p?

I’ve been trying different sigils like force and strength. I still do a lot of damage, just not as “fast” as air and fire sigils.

Reason I ask is in the case they nerf the air and fire proc or damage, I have other sigils I can use and still do fine. I just don’t want to become to reliant on those sigils that I’ll crumble.

Any suggestions?

sigil of impact is nice paired with basilisk venom (you do 10% more dmg while they are “stoned”). D/D build with assassin’s signet (15% extra dmg for 3 next attacks) makes some nasty backstabs. Haven’t tried this for D/P, but guess it could work.
Force as you mention.
Sigil of the night if you wvw roam. 10% more dmg increase at night (always have one dagger in backup that has this)
Bloodlust is nice (take this on your shortbow. 25 stacks increases your power by 250 when you have killed 5 enemy players with SB equipped. Run with the zerg for 2 mins, you got your stacks).

I am using air and intelligence on d/p, intelligence and generosity on sb, intelligence and fire on the rare s/d adventures.

I hate rng so those guarantee’d crits are my favorite at the moment, I dropped bloodlust because I was worrying about my stacks to much, s/d is aoe spam anyway so I use fire there.

I’m a fan of rage. Sigil > trait. Same cool down as trait but 3s of haste instead of 2.

There is no real alternative for damage. Night/Impact can deal more burst damage on a stab within the frame of Basilisk Venom, but that’s only applicable to a signet burst build like mine assuming it’s also night time, and the opponent has no aegis/stability/immunities/blocks/stun breaks. Force is overall fairly weak; Fire/Air have the best increase in damage for burst and are extremely close if not better in overall DPS depending on the build.

Fire/Air deal disproportionate amounts of damage compared to the rest of the sigils, and the damage being un-counterable and ICD’s being based upon hits landing and not attacks (I.E., repeated misses will not put them on ICD) makes them even further valuable in PvP environments, as the procs can’t be baited out.

While its not too different than fire/air, sigil of blood is a very viable alternative to those two. In fact, its possibly even superior to the fire when facing tankier players. It gives both damage and slightly higher sustain. Its comparable and not as popular potentially allowing it to dodge the nerf bat that is possibly approaching for fire/air sigils (a nerf bat that I disagree with).

I’ve definitely started trying out sigil of intelligence and it is somewhat working for me, I’m just not used to the whole swapping yet; soon.

As for sigil of impact that seems really interesting, that extra 10% would be awesome for the burst. To be honest I didn’t even knew it existed until I read this LOL!

for sigil of rage, I have used it before, it’s not bad. I just kind of stopped using it…not sure why though, I guess I got tired of it or something xD

I am messing around with s/d and I’m using a force/fire and for bow I have fire/energy…still can’t get away from the fire sigil lol. I might swap fire out for energy on the dagger and put intelligence on the bow. Still trying to get used to the whole swapping thing, I rarely swap weapons so this is a good learning experience.

Edit: @helly: yea I do agree that fire and air shouldn’t be nerfed, but it is pretty much guaranteed nerf it is just a matter of when, which is kinda sad
For sigil of blood, mmm, I’m just not that into the whole building stacks kind of thing. I just hate the fact that you lose all of them if you die…and I tend to die a lot lol…which again, I still need to work on xD
But I do see your point though, that extra damage is really nice to have, now if it only dropped half the stacks then maybeeee I might consider it xD once I improve my survivability skills I will definitely check it out.

I keep going back to that Sigil of Rage, it nearly always procs when I need to stomp someone and it procs often enough in general that it’s almost like a rhythm of movement and positioning then burn some initiative when the Rage takes off.

676 Blood heals same amount as well. 5 Second cooldown.
2550 Fire aoe.5 Second cooldown.
3300 Air single. 3 Second cooldown.

3k Power for calculations.

Nothing compares to Air and Fire.

I use sigil of perception whenever I’m confident, bloodlust is something else to go to as well. As for spvp I stick with accuracy and air combo for more raw crits.

doh! my mistake xD I always get those two confuse lol. I have been trying it and it’s alright, I don’t hate it
I purchased one on the trading post, for future purposes if I want to use it as my main sigil for WvW
