Smoke bomb sucks in PvE, Why doesn’t it freaking reset aggro!
I want to be able to teleport away in downed state and smoke bomb so that the mobs will back the kitten off so I don’t have to freaking die and tp back to a Waypoint on the other side of the map and because of that I have to make the tedious run back to my destination.

Fix smoke bomb Anet! God it’s been what? Almost 10months?

Clarification: Smoke Bomb, the Thief downed #3 skill.

For some reason, the first page of Smoke Bomb rants are always people defending Blinding Powder. Thought I’d head that off before it started.

And yes, yes it does suck in pve. About all it’s good for is setting up Venomous Knife. However, since that’s pretty much all condition damage and you’re probably almost dead by time you can even get off a Smoke Bomb, it’s also basically worthless.

But as long as it continues to break the brains of pvp players who haven’t figured out that you’re still stationary when you vanish, then it’ll probably stay this way.

Make it a 1/2 second cast and a 3 second stealth and we’re talking.

Edit: It used to be better in PvE, when going into stealth made your attacker sprint back to their starting position, and could make enough distance for you to reset aggro and channel a significant revive / bandage.

Mixing insults with your post is like pooping in a salad.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.

I will be great, if smokebomb would summon a thief companion like by the mesmer downedskill #3.

But no companion who only use backstab or something, I mean more npc like them from the trab or the elite.

Yes, Smoke Bomb is so bad that it actually feels like a bugged skill and has on multiple occasions caused me to laugh at my monitor as it literally does nothing and I think to myself “what the hell is wrong with Anet?”. The only use it has at all is giving you access to the stealth version of the #1 skill which causes bleeds, giving you a slightly better chance at a rally.

Not going to sugarcoat it- whoever decided that Stealth shouldn’t drop aggro and that Stealth should only ever last 3 seconds in PvE is a moron. Stealth is non-functioning as a defensive skill and totally overpowered as an offensive one when it should be balanced for both.

Make it a 1/2 second cast and a 3 second stealth and we’re talking.

Edit: It used to be better in PvE, when going into stealth made your attacker sprint back to their starting position, and could make enough distance for you to reset aggro and channel a significant revive / bandage.

It actually never worked that well even before the PvE stealth nerf. It always needed to last longer than 3 seconds to be effective at all. Stealth should last twice as long in PvE as it does in PvP and WvW.

Change it to something like “Diversion Bomb”

Go in to Stealth for 3 seconds and summon a Thief to aid you.

The spawned Thief would always be the melee one with Scorpion Wire, prioritising the target closest to you.

Keep Smoke Bomb in PvP for all I care. In PvE it’s useless.

Change it to “poop in pants” because all it’s really good for is hoping whatever is attacking you is like "he used that skill, well **** that then I’m gonna get ADD and do something else.

It wasn’t great, but I have distinct memories of popping smoke bomb in PvE and getting a full disengage out of it, instead of having a 50% health mob finish me off. Currently that isn’t even a possibility.

If a mob is outside its roaming area and you use a smoke bomb the mob will return to its area and aggro can reset. If you are inside a mob’s roaming area and use smoke bomb then it will wait for you.

Honestly, our down skills kind of suck in general. I guess the dagger throw can work okay for a rally. But that teleport just buys one a little distance and sometimes doesn’t work very well.

Smokebomb is really bad though. The only time I’ve really found it to be any bit useful is in PVP to slightly delay someone finishing you off. Other than that, it’s pretty much pointless for how short it lasts. Summoning a thief would be a lot more useful, especially since those guys love drawing aggro.

Well, no. PvE for sure is different but thieves are already able to survive 2 stomps in PvP/WvW and this change would bring the possibility to even survive 3 of them if the npc happens to scorpion wire at the right time.

(And for those comparing thieves #3 to mesmers: The rogue is basically useless, never ready in time and does nothing to help you survive. Also our #2 tends to teleport us right into the opponents/mobs…)
