Sneak Attack

look at it this way
would you use backstab on a condition thief
well why would you use sneak attack on a crit thief then?

Hehe indeed!I would love BS to add 5 bleeds and to play:Death Blossom+C&D+BS.But we can’t have it all. That is the price we pay for initiative system:
Little to no synergy between weapon skills(even between the skills of the same weapon).

It isn’t no synergy. Thief doesn’t have as many weapons as say a warrior, so each weapon provides both condition and/or direct dmg for both types of play style.
Sword is direct dmg but has weakness/daze ability and sb has more evade moves for a more condition nature.

Exactly why I’d like to see backstab have some condition synergy.
You guys are plain wrong, sneak attack has good damage for a power/crit build.
Test P/P Unload vs P/D Sneak attack vs D/D Backstab vs SB Cluster bomb:
Sneak attack crit for around 4k. Range with stealth.
Unload crit for around 6k. Range with no stealth.
Cluster bomb crit for around 4k. Range with no stealth.
Backstab crit for around 6k. Melee with stealth
Seems to be in a pretty good state, damage wise with range and stealth on demand.

I’m pretty sure this thread was started because of the build I posted up. I want to just say that the way your looking at sneak attack on this build is wrong, you don’t depend on just sneak attack for damage, its a combination of auto’s cnd and sneak attack. Looking at just sneak attacks damage alone is like me saying the auto attacks on the regular condition P/Ds alone is really weak.

Negative, I posted it because there’s a discrepancy between the abilities that means a condition build makes a hell of a lot more use out of P/D than an burst build.
But what I’ve learned from this thread, no one wants to change anything (even though it’s free damage for everyone) because… I never could work out their reasoning for this.

All of these numbers are useless without examining the time and resources required to execute each attack and the time until they can be executed again. If we just lined up all the damage numbers that could be done by pressing a button then some skills would look very favorable indeed.
Back stab, for instance, can be executed a lot quicker in the right situations, leaving time for an entire extra strike of something else during the same timeframe as a sneak attack.
I don’t think there’s really anything wrong with Sneak Attack, but you can’t meaningfully compare damage like you have.

lol
why would you use sneak attack on a crit thief?
on a crit thief.. sneak attack hits for around 2.5-4k depending on toughness of the enemy. add that to the approx 1200 bleed dmg (with no added condi dmg) and you have a sneak attack doing effectivly 3.7-5.2k in total. how is that no usefull? also, the sneak attack with shadow refuge gives huge life stealing numbers
im a crit/power build, and fight primarily in melee,.. towards the end on the fight, i hit c+d, swap to P/P, move out of the danger zone then and hit a 3.5k sneak attack followed by a 6k unload.. enemy dead
im referring to spvp btw
The reason why I’m liking crit on p/d now is because when you compare “rotation” a p/d does, the raw dmg just does more than, even on high toughness targets, and you still get the same amount of bleed stacks that do half the damage when you go for the condition damage.
as a pve zerker P/P i like sneed attack, i use shadowrefuge alot to drop agro and help downd / low health party members.
the dmg is nice 4k + (104% crit dmg ) and unload spam is nice on champs with a good group anywhere from 7-12k crits depending on how much toughness a boss has (some are light armor some are heavy so dmg varies for every one)
