So.. Scorpion Wire
>equip scorpion wire
>go to skyhammer
> stay on top of glass pad
>pull
>roll out of the pad
>profit.
EDIT: don’t forget you can pull from stealth too. and if that pesky guardian is sitting there with his aegis, just hit him with whatever you have, thieves always have a ranged attack on their weapon skillset.
I’m quite disappointed at this skill as well.
After a warrior trying to knock me down from a platform in Obsidian Sanctum last
night, I switched one of my utilities to Scorpion wire, hoping to drag that kitten
down on his kitten . He was dragged towards me and then stopped on the edge and stood up.
I find this very unfair with Engineers, Guardians, Warriors, Elementalist and Mesmers having the ability to knock multiple people of ledges, ranger 1 target (and I think it’s piercing), necromancers fear multiple ppl off, while thief can’t even drag 1 target off with a rope.
Which is to bad, cause we need a cool Scorpion build that works. We got the pull and the teleport punch (mug+steal) and almost the clothes! Just need the flaming skull head and the guardian torch #5 skill. lol.

hellfire helm can be applied to medium armor not the same, but close enough.
It’s definitely useful… when it works.
Sadly, in its current state is nothing more than a coin toss. It won’t hit anything that moves, and even if you manage to hit a stationary target, it may simply fall prone for a second, without being pulled or anything else.
Isn’t it strange that NPC pulls always seem to work no matter what, while player pulls fail for the most spurious reasons?

just 1 more proof the devs hate the thief profession…
i like using it when i face a mesmer they blink, i pull ’’wtf’’ mesmer is now the one confused, or i also use it to counter rtl / mist form (not the downed one) / lightning flash.
as a mesmer is my main the last thing i expect is scorpion wire so i decided to use it, granted im still only level 60 with my thief its a slow wvw leveling process as i keep playing my mes haha.

just a thought, if you want a knockback which i suppose could compliment a p/p build (yeh i know there not optimal but w/e!) they could make scorpion wire with a second chain, you press it twice and instead of pulling the enemy it dazes them and you leap to them using the wire performing a kick which knocks them back X yards.
i added the daze as i can imagine people moving and screwing this up unless its pathed of course, like HS make it an evade as your travelling in the air.
might prove for some interesting defenses with critters and other mobs too.

actually it would be great it it would aim the the head instead at the feet !
maybe you get less “obstructed” and a bit more reliability
we don’t have any pulls or launches except this….and it’s terrible…
The projectile needs to be higher off the ground so that it won’t be block by non-flat terrain.

Looks nothing like scorpion…
This one does:

The skill looks like it has the same pathing as shadow step. It stop in thin air…
But those times it do work, I really love it! It’s so fun to use in sPvP to keep people off nodes and where you want them – right in your face

For scorpion wire to work properly and pull them to you, you have to use it, and imediately jump after
By the way, for skyhammer just use tripwire on the glass panels
Shortbow surprise shot or devourer venom => target can’t move or dodge => guaranteed scorpion wire.
Boon removal (bountiful best) strips stability first.
Sky hammer ez mode
Increase projectile speed and it’s good. As it stands, it’s not the worst utility we have, but it’s really situational (i.e. Skyhammer, jumping puzzles, and a few rare PvE fights).
Scorpion Wire is always on my utility bar when I expect to be doing small scale PvP. I main a Mesmer, and I think that has influenced my builds of every other class I play… as I am always trying to get access to a bunch of interrupts, Scorpion Wire/Slight of Hand for my Thief, Spectral Grasp (and Doom) for my Necro.
My use of Scorpion Wire is almost entirely used as a close/melee range interrupt (which does not require initiative, or a specific weapon set like Headshot does). With Scorpion Wire and Slight of Hand, that’s two interrupts on separate 20 second cool downs. Since I play a D/D condition thief (shooting myself in the foot, I know), having those two interrupts and knowledge of other classes, I am generally able to keep them from cleansing their conditions as much as they would like to. Whenever I try to use it at greater than 500 range, unless the enemy is walking in a straight line towards/away from me, then it will miss my target, no question.
In general though, its all about play style. If you aren’t using Scorpion Wire as an interrupt (and know which skills, and when to interrupt), then it is mostly a useless skill to you. You can sometimes pull noobie players off walls during a siege with it, but that’s more so funny than all that useful. Necro’s Spectral Grasp is orders of magnitude better for grabbing people that are at any sort of range.. but meh, you have to work with the tools given to you.
I think the issue people seem to have with it is that it seems to work ok for some things (like a short range interrupt) but not the obvious one (a reverse gap closer).
