I’m guessing…dagger damage will be reduced, or LS will lose about 50% of its damage….or maybe sb will now do the same damage per hit as pistol…or maybe all thief stealth skills will be reduced by 1 second…or maybe they’ll just cut thief base damage by 20%?….since thief is obviously OP in pvp, what with none of the top players being thief it’s only because the other classes are trying SOO much harder than thief players…

Oh San, you’re such a card! Always with the silly comments and lack of knowledge of the class in general.

I wouldn’t doom and gloom though, there isn’t much more they can do to nerf thief without making it entirely unplayable. And as bad as that would be for a few months, if they make thief unplayable, they’ll eventually have to fix them, like warriors.

Not that I want to be OP, but I’d rather be OP than be nerfed without cause over and over and over again.

S/D doesn’t really need a big buff – they should fix LS so that is properly counters boon bunkers without over penalizing other specs that use boons, but beyond that, it’s ok. There can certainly be some fixes (DD’s cripple lasting the listed duration, not missing on targets 200 away from you and moving in a straight line, etc), but other than that the set is still solid.

Obviously, PW needs some attention after it was revealed that a programming error was the only thing making the skill even marginally useful. AFAIK, the dev’s acknowledged PW is currently in a kittenty state, and are looking into ways to fix it.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on a P/P rework – thieves have been pointing out how poorly designed the set is for 8-10 months, and it’s still where it is. A fix will come eventually, I’m sure, but the Oct 29th patch is wishful thinking on an extreme scale – you have better luck with your states lottery.

Then thieves can still steal 2 boons, that was the only counter we had to boon stacking builds

I have my warrior ready and preparing a necromancer, in case things go bad.

In terms of buffs, I want D/D back to its former glory, improvements on S/D to counter boons, S/P buffed, P/D needs a small buff on damage to be as competitive as other condition builds. Many traits in Deadly Arts and Acrobatics lines to be reworked and improved so choosing Deadly Arts over Critical Strikes could be just as viable.
And I also think there should be larger access to Feline Grace, or the healthpool of lower health classes to be upped a bit so they can compete better with Necromancers and Warriors.

I see what you mean. And I agree that it would bring even more a FS spam meta for dodging, but not a lot different from SB skill 3 or pistol whip evade or D\D skill 3 evade.
If A-net wouldn’t be so lazy they could easily fix it by raising up the initiative cost on FS by 1 and lowering the ini cost on LS by 1. The total cost of the combo would be 5 ini like now, but it would prevent in part a mindless spamming of the only FS.

Thief might not be as strong as last year
but they’re a lot stronger
than they will be next year!

I disagree – FS evade is much different than Disabling shot, PW, and DB.

DB, as an evade, is garbage – there are periods during the animation when you’re open. Any half decent player will exploit them and destroy you. PW is…laughable at the moment – when it gets fixed, we can talk about it. DS’s evade is solid, but it doesn’t facilitate something like LS on hit (In this proposed change), so there is a noticeable difference.

On PW I was just talking about the evade part of the skill. I know that the skill is garbage at the moment since the stun duration nerf, but the evade part is on par with the FS evade.

Same for Disabling Shot, one is a gap opener that does few damage but cripple and evade, FS is a gap closer that does few damage and evade. I would say that on the paper DS is even better than FS if we don’t consider the LS chain.

Regarding DB I agree with you, I shouldn’t compare the evade on these 2 skills, but it’s the DB evade that needs a little buff for a 4ini skill.

I still think that making FS cost 4ini and LS activate only if FS hits and cost 1ini would improve a lot the thief gameplay on that set. Of course we cannot be sure about that without testing it and seeing how it evolves over time.

-They will give invisibility and backstab to warriors (it can be EASILY countered with sic’em!!!)
-New warrior skill: summon phantasmal warriors – call 2 warrior’s clones, that have 50% hp, 50% damage
-Warriors will be able to summon spectral weapons to help them in combat
-On 10% hp warrior is immune to damage and can only die by falling.

Agreed. Many of us enjoy our thieves, and reduced stealth could open up more possibilities for this class. There will never be improvements to this class while permastealth remains as it is. The player base won’t stand for it.

I think you underestimate the hatred non stealthers have toward perma stealth. I hear it all the time from my guild mates and server mates. Intense hatred. I know anet hears it too. In fact developers on my server have said that they get tons of grief about it. So, logically, they will be reluctant to buff this class further when the source of that hatred still exists. I wish for improvements too such as more tools to deal with lolwarriors, but the hue and cry from those who loathe permastealth would be overwhelming. Just logical.

Well A-NEt received a lot of awsome tips on how to deal with perma stealth thief (that btw is due to only one weapon set – D\P – and complained most and exclusively in WvW). Now I don’t want to repeat all these advices that were given out.
A-Net is simply unable to make the right choices and instead of listening to the most experienced players, is messing up the game patch after patch, breaking things that are working fine and still not fixing what realy needs fixs.

I was a non-stealther before I quit but alot of the people I associated with (who have also quit) not only looked down on the people who relied on stealth too much but did their best to keep the bleeding heart thief complainers at bay.

They HATED the complainers with a passion and wouldn’t hesitate to walk by the line of Forum Code of Conduct violation just to get them to leave.

As for the stealth-dependent noobs, they would go on threads saying “look at my awesome thief footage” and reply with “oh look… It’s another backstab montage :P” or “I liked how everyone you killed stood there while you melted them.”

Logically, they would not buff a class they know nothing about which is my point. The people who’ve never played a thief in their life yet cry oceans to the developers who also never really played thieves exacerbate the problem. So, no. Reducing of stealth will only kill the class because thieves have nothing beyond that.

I’d like to know also (seriously not being sarcastic). During the SotGs all we see how excited the devs get of the buffs/changes coming to other classes then hear how 1 of our 2 specs (the evasive one not the blind/stealth spam one) is just a little too effective. It’d be nice if one of the devs who main thief could handle the previews or maybe one of the SotGs to give a voice to the thief.

-Since editing Shadow’s Embrace tooltip was too hard, we normalized the trait giving it a 10s cooldown. This way the tooltip is no longer wrong.

If you try to help the profession for several months in a row but get nowhere because the bleeding hearts and developers managed to land on the same ship, then the only thing that will get things done is to let everything burn to the ground. The thief in its current state is useless beyond hitting 5 digit numbers on bad players.

But since the name of the game is “popular belief”, everyone except for the diehards and newer thieves have left the profession and are currently bashing it. And we inject a little drama into our posts now and then because that’s the only way people pay attention to anything nowadays.

This is what I like to call “burn out” where a volatile situation becomes unsalvageable and is abandoned and left to die. Those who actually cared may even assist in its destruction as a form of mercy killing.

So if you want to play with that one-trick-pony class, go ahead. I’ll be enjoying with more useful classes.

Well, since I switched back to a D/D semi-burst build I have a feeling thats back up on the chopping block. Maybe reduced radius of shortbow AoE skills too. I’ll leave this here though, after not having to play against it for so long a lot of people don’t know how to play against D/D anymore.

I am still waiting for the pistol whip damage to be unnerfed… since all of the reasons given for that nerf (quickness) are already long gone.
But to get real – I pretty sure they would be capable of something like stealth stacking nerf, shortbow nerf. Maybe even pistol range reduced (since warriors are complaining a lot about new immobile on pistol 2)
