I got lots of karma stored up, enough to buy a full set of Orr Temple gear. I was wondering though, for the soldier gear, Pov/Tough/Vit combi, what kind of playstlye is it suited for?

Dont really know where to place it along with a playstyle for a thief.

I use it a whole set with S/D, 4x Ruby/ 2x Emerald Orbs and damage/orientated accessories. It’s one of the best builds I’ve found so far. I’m considering some Beryl instead of Ruby.

If you’re using P/D, Carrion is better. You won’t be taking that much damage, since you’ll be spamming stealth so much.

I use P/V/T gear with scholar runes on my thief. Great for Power based PvE based builds, I also use it for backstab in WvW, as it sacrifices around 10% crit damage and crit chance, but you gain around 400 armour and a couple thousand health.

I use it with berserker trinkets and berserker weapons.

P/V/T armor is the definitive armor set for a thief, and I have tried them all. Make sure to offset the gain of vitality and toughness for more burst damage when equipping runes, sigils, and accessories. The way you spend trait points for this build is very crucial, as well as the utility skills used.

I find P/V/T gear to be great in WvW while running with zergs or coordinated groups. You can still put out good damage and you will not be the one who goes down and rallies 20 enemies after a good bomb.

Keep in mind that with the sacrifice of crit chance/crit damage/condition damage on your gear your dps will not be something to drool over. You will have to get use to fighting longer and using your useful yet limited tanking ability right.

I use full soldiers armor with full knights trinkets. This gives me about 16k hp and just under 2900 armor. I rarely take more than 1-1.5k damage from any single shot. Warriors kill shots hit for around 3-5k depending on how geared out the warrior is. But keep in mind 16k hp is still pretty low at 1k damage per hit that is still only 16 hits. You are not godlike, more like a wooden wall vs a paper wall.

Soldiers gear is an excellent choice for Thieves in all situations. I’m not sure if you’d want to stack it in every slot but you can if you want.

However Soldiers + Valkyrie can be combined into a very durable build when combined with the Hidden Killer trait that guarantees Backstab crits.
