I’m currently on a 1st tier server (Sanctum of Rall). I like roaming in WvW but whenever I roam solo I can almost never find anything resembling a fair fight. Usually I run into 4-5 man gank groups all comboing off each other and either I have to completely avoid them or I’m on CD and they get me.

How do you guys feel about your server? Have you had success picking off single targets or even managed to get duels without other people always coming in and ruining the fun?

Even if I’m hanging out a bit away from the spawn, by the time I manage to down someone, more enemies have shown up.

I was on a t2 server until recently, and i did find em but generally more showed up, was in t1 for 2 weeks and it sucked cause i only roam and people in t1 only seem to know how to gank >.>

Went to t3 now and I’m having loads of fun catching people alone or in duos, so much fun killing people and not being mobbed very often, happens very rarely now, and most times i can avoid it less i feel like trying to get a kill before i die.

T1 is a joke roaming wise. There is no skill here, only zergs, mini zergs, and groups of 5+. There are some self proclaimed individually skilled “havoc squads”, but I have yet to seen one that won’t zerg you down with 5 players. If you want roaming I don’t suggest going to T1.

I though, like it here, simply because it’s a challenge fighting outnumbered. You’ll lose most of the time in a 1v5, and they will probably proceeded to jump over your body and /laugh, but that one time you win that 1v3/4/5 is worth it.

A mate and I are from Blackgate and all we do is roam around destroying the JQ zerg babies that get left behind or are trying to catch up to the blue taco’s… definitely fun.

WvW isn’t a place for “fair 1vs1” if you encounter it it’s your luck. Small groups is the minimum i found in Desolation.

Players need to make some more noise about putting those gauntlet arenas into WvW, but make them pit players against eachother..

Roaming isn’t about fair 1v1s. It’s about competition and survival against like-minded players in a completely chaotic and hostile environment. That’s what makes it fun. The fact that I can start a scrap at random with a total stranger and constantly have to watch everything around me just in case I get jumped by additional enemy players or a zerg while fighting for my life makes it so much more thrilling than fight nights or spvp dueling.

As for where to roam… Zerging exists at all tiers of play, but you’ll find a little more breathing room in the mid-to-lower tiers, especially towards the end of prime-time hours. If you get a chance, try to land a server that fights against NSP regularly. They’ve got some top-notch roamers there that will definitely help you improve your gameplay, whether you want to or not.

I’m on Crystal Desert, we normally are T4 and are matched up with equivalent T4 servers. We have zergs (which for you may be considered small groups lol) and we have tons of roamers. A couple weeks ago when we were against SBI & EBay there were solo roamers all over the place. Also tons of small skirmishes, 2v2’s 3v3’s 4v4’s. A lot of fun. Recently however we’ve been matched up with FA, SOS, and we just literally don’t have the numbers compared to them. When match-ups like this happen our roamers tend to take the week off or just zerg up. Pretty much any T4 server will give you what you’re looking for. If you are going to switch though, Crystal Desert would love to have ya

Well, I’m not a great thief, but in general it’s very rare for me to come across even 2v1s. I usually run into 4-5 man groups with things like 2 thieves, 1 mesmer, 1 guard and they are very hard to escape from (getting thrown out of shadow refuge or pulled by guard GS). Maybe I’m not looking in the right places.

It’s all about how u try to escape from em, there easy to avoid if u just use c/d or black powder and then stealth, get some distance and then stealth. I only die really in 1 vs 5s if i decide to try and get a kill even though i know ill die, i generally go for the squishy zerk thief’s in groups lol. easy targets

I agree, they aren’t hard to escape from…it’s just groups of 4+ are seemingly ALL I run into here. And I’m not going to pretend that I can win 4v1s like Bemeric haha Of course, it’s also fun to dagger storm in the middle of them and go down fighting

Switch servers then lol, I’m having loads of fun, I barely ever die anymore from being ganked on this new server, and I’ve been winning 1 vs 3 and so on, it’s a blast so far lol

Roaming is not just about killing stragglers. When I roam, I have a purpose in mind.

Do I defend that camp about to be flipped? Do I flip this camp that doesn’t belong to us currently? I can also flip other objectives and kill sentries. A tower of ours got flipped and with no enemies to defend it? I’m going to drop a flame ram here and get it built.

Killing other people are something that happens as a byproduct but not what I seek to do. If all you do is literally roam around without caring for objectives then you really are just “trolling”.

I’m in T2 currently (Tarnished coast) and I find plenty of opportunities to do just that. Besides I move with the zerg when there is one because that’s WvW akittens core.

This is the correct answer. Solo roaming doesnt work in the high tiers.
