Hello,

I am quite new to video editing and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice.
I play on far shiverpeaks, backstab/stealth build thief ( build and equips are in the video).

Things to improve:

- Music selection, so that it actually fits the footage.
- FPS, not yet.. hopefully in two weeks.
- Figure out a way how to remove the chat without having big logo placed on it.
- Video editing overall.

Okey, where to begin. First of all, your video wasnt much different of all these thousands of other thief PvP videos. Everyone plays thief and thus make videos of them. My eyes bleed for seeing another thief video but I give everyone fair chance since they put work in it. But lets start:

First of all, dont start video where you show off your thief walking and its fancy moves, it is never good start for video, its been like that since World of Warcraft. Showing clips of you overcoming some impossible odds or clips where you survive by doing something unique will give viewer what to expect. Also showing your high crits against target that runs away or standing AFK isnt going to excite viewer.

I am at 2:30, so far you have killed you opponents with 11111111122212121212121 and of course thief “You spin me right round” elite which made me actually laugh as I remembered that song. Specially during 2 thieves spinning around eachother rofl.

3:05, Benny Hill music.. no.. just no. Trust me. Dont do it. Clip was fun as you took on 3 of them but unfortunatelly they were like bots so nothing special really, but good clip I liked it.

After Benny’s Hill, you killed low level elementalist, and two low level warriors who were leveling or getting skill point so none of them put much effort in killing you. After that you downed max level ranger and his buddy was worried more of NPC wolf than you which made whole scene hilarious, though not much “skill” as you just spammed 1 and 2 and your elite to down them both but fun none the less. Rest is just 1 and 2 spam and elite for aoe.

Overall, this is just one thief video among others. There is golden rule which of course none need to go by but there it is. If you do PvP video, make sure it shows some skillful opponents vs your skill, where you take on really good players showing your fighting skills beyond “everyday thief”. Something that makes people say “Whoa, thats cool.” Because there hundereds of videos where all thieves do same stuff what you do. 1212121212121211212. Iv seen some skilled thieves playing and thats fun to watch.

Another way to do video is goofy style. You play goofy and your opponents are just facepalm, with good music and some humor you can make very funny video.

Overall I give you credit for spending time to make it, editing was fine, not much flashing and overzooming an all that nonsense. But what it suffered was opponents that were not on par to your level or better. I felt like you were killing bots. Theres no fun in watching “bots”.

First of on the skill notice i have used every skill except for number 3, which is more for a condition thief. If you look closely you will see me spam throwing dagger more than i use number 2. Especially since the throwing dagger bounces 3 times between 2 targets close to eachother it does quite the damage.

I agree the intro wasn’t as optimal, but at this moment i am trying to create a unique intro, but time will tell if i will succeed in it as it has to do with 3d modeling. My idea behind the intro is to introduce the thief (looks/items and some minor movements). I will try to update the intro into a more of an inviting intro for the next video.

Benny hill, pick was due to lack of music that i have experienced. ( I hardly ever listen to music so that was the only one that came up). Music is one of the big points i will have to fix for future videos also the transition between music you can hear this right after the intro the music just starts loud, while a simple fade in and out would have fixed that.

I have gotten multiple feedbacks about showing more of a “well played” opponent instead of players who aren’t optimal geared. I will try to add clips of single fights.

I liked your video. I don’t play wvw cause I can’t figure out how to get good gear. I have no clue how sigils/runes work or transmuting. I just play spvp. I tried your spec out and I like it. It’s pretty fun. If I knew how to get gear for wvw I would probably go with the same “Nightmare” armor look as well. That was my favorite of the dungeon vendors.

Solo WvW is useless.

Solo WvW can allow a single player to hamper the supply of an entire map or stop people from completing jumping puzzles for easy siege. There is certainly a place for solo WvW, and a good soloer (especially in a highly mobile profession like a thief) is contributing more to their server’s success than >90 % of the people on the map.

I am guild leader of Attack of the Zombies, we run small rogue squads constantly for supply camps as soon as they are available. I have not yet decided to create guild videos, but that might actually be a good idea.

You will only see me solo when the guildmembers are doing something else and are too busy to come to wvw. I understand you might not see it as a “contribution” to wvw, but you could look at it in a different view like Tulisin.6945 said I do cap supply camps solo but its at a slower speed than if i would be with my guildmembers. I ussually cut off players trying to reach the zerg be it one or multiple players.

In my eyes you spam Dancing Dagger more than any other move (I do too, when I use daggers) and you only really used Heartseeker to finish people off (as intended by Anet) so I don’t know what the haters are on about.

I’ll say this, though. Some of the music was kind of generic, and quite a bit of it either wasn’t synced properly or there was some other problem that I can quite put my finger on. Blood Sugar especially sounded really weird; maybe it was a different mix or something.

The fight with the chicken dance music was probably the best one! It was nice to watch proper guerilla tactics from another thief. One tip – Against that necro, when you ran in with shortbow, if you had dropped poison field to start the fight it would have helped bring him down more quickly. With poison field stacking ~8-10 seconds of poison, his heal would have been reduced in effectiveness, and he would have gone down more quickly.

Just my thoughts! I’d love to see your build (didn’t see it in the video description).

Dancing dagger is one of my favorite skills, it does crazy amount of damage especially when its 2 or 3 enemies near eachother. Sometimes i go too much on it tho.. ending up with no initiative, but thanks to my build that doesn’t stay too long! You are right if you look very closely HS is my least spammed skill. I love to hear constructive criticism, “hating” i ussually don’t take it too serious.

This would probably be on my end, I am still playing around with codecs haven’t found the right one yet. Music is right now my biggest weakness in editing, i hardly ever listen to music and because of that it makes the search for music much longer. Hopefully with some more experience in editing this problem will go away. The thing what most annoyed me was i couldn’t get my music to sync well as in.. when jumping from clip to another.

I completely agree! I know how usefull the skill is, but in the heat of battle its the skill i skip the most ( which is a bad thing! ). Its bad on my part and hopefully i will be able to fully utilize it in future fights.

Seriously, make a vid.

This is exactly the sort of stuff small guilds CAN contribute to their WvW team. Not everybody needs to mindlessly zerg, or aren’t in large enough guilds to siege keeps as a guild.

And it reaffirms that EVERYBODY can play a role in aiding their WvW team. Even down to a solo guy. Make it two or three guys, and you can really start wreaking some havoc.

I come from Daoc. Soloing is usually how I play. I hate zerging because to me it’s boring. If I had the gear I’d be solo in wvw. Korishi, I figured out sigils/runes. I can’t get a group for the life of me to do the ta dungeon. Not sure where your daggers came from tho.

So the entire valkyrie emblazoned set. Its crafted with 400 leatherworking. You can buy them ~2 gold each piece if you are lucky. If you farm orichalcum every day by following this map:

You could get it in a week. Ori ores sell for ~1 gold 30 silver if you collect everything.

Is there a way to transmute nightmare armor without doing the dungeon over and over?

Some guy said there was a way with spvp gear. I’m only rank11 in spvp tho.

I’ll check out the farming tips. I only have 1g ATM.

Spvp gear is seperate from wvw and pve, spvp gear is only wearable in heart of the mist. If you do every path once every day you get about 180 tokens you need around 1200 tokens.

When transmuting dungeon gear, I noticed you can buy 2 different kinds of gear. Level 70 and level 80 I think. Do I need to purchase level 80 for transmuting?

You can buy anything for transmuting, but it has to be the ones that you spend tokens on not money or you might buy the wrong one! look for the second tab for the token nightmare set.

I enjoyed the video, nice job. Yes, thief is less buttons to press, but placement, kiting, stealth/cooldown management was well done in the video so it was enjoyable to watch. Thanks for sharing, would like to see more.
