Dungeon Master
Been there. Done that.
Hello,
I’m very very confused about runes and traits..I’m usually P/P player but recently I started using D/D and find it much powerful that P/P.
Now, I’m using Superior Rune of the Pirate (suggested by my friend for magic find)..I’m not sure whether it’s really effective as I only 2-3 rares/day and 1-2 exotic/week.
(after using Omnomberry Bars)
1) Should I change my runes? If yes, which one should I get?
Regarding traits, previously I had 10/10/10/30/5..I survived and explored the world, but died lot of times. (HP: 14.5K)
So, I looked up GW2 public forums couple days ago for some help and I found a build with: 30/25/0/0/15.
Got very nice amount of power but my HP is only 11K now..I survive but in dungeons it ends up badly..1 hit and down.
Can anybody suggest me good/proper build?
Thank you
You have far too much in Deadly Arts; and you’re clearly not running a Venom-spec because you don’t have 30 points in Shadow Arts as well (for Venom-share and Venom-lifesteal). 30/0/30/0/0 (10 extra points left) is pretty much the only time you ever invest that much into Deadly Arts.
I personally believe that the Thief’s best traits are in Shadow Arts and Acrobatics. I run 0/10/30/30/0 with full Berserker equipment and Runes of Melandru (a little extra toughness goes a long way for glass cannons). With Assassin’s Reward, Shadow Rejuvenation and Signet of Malice all passively healing me in a fight (plus Condition Removal every time I stealth), I am a sustainable glass-cannon. I don’t really worry about my damage; I have full Berserker gear and I can maintain up to 10 stacks of Might from Hidden Assassin in a fight, and have an extra 10% damage when my endurance is not full. I have Feline Grace for extra Evasion and I have +3 initiative every 10 seconds so that I do not have to worry about running out of initiative.
However that is just my opinion. Other thieves believe the Grandmaster trait in Critical Strikes (Executioner) is mandatory, and try to build around that.

Let’s see, For runes, I used to run in full explorer and traveler netting 100+ mf
> Goes to COE 1 Lodestone
> \o/
Weeks later…
> needs WvW set
> makes it
> uses it
> goes to COE
> 5 Charged cores 1 Lodestone with all 3 paths.
^And this is consistent, tho I might get one less or one more core/lodestone
My set is rampager’s with sup rune of vamp.
And currently I have 0% mf
And I rather not tell you a build if it’s right or wrong.
Just experiment yourself.
go for a venom build with basilisk venom as your elite and take the “reduce venom recharge time” trait. than go with Rune of Lyssa.
Judging by your HP you’re rocking zerker gear(or are you wearing magic find gear?). If you want to stick with that, the (unless things have changed?) standard GC build is 25/30/x/x/x with the last 15 points being placed in one of the other lines (I personally prefer acrobatics). You’ll want Mug and Dagger training from deadly arts. First 2 traits are up to you in Crit strikes, I personally prefer furious retaliation and critical haste (though I run Sword/Dagger) but practiced tolerance is also nice for the HP boost. Executioner is far too good for a glass cannon build to pass up on.
Pirate runes are a good choice for MF, but they also bring Might synergy to the table. If you’re going to use Pirate runes, you might want to invest in Acrobatics and perhap signet synergy from Critical Strikes.
As for MF as a whole, I generally encourage people to go for the “cheap” MF that doesn’t result in a lot of combat stat losses. Runes, allstat gear, and food offer good MF values for less opportunity cost than other choices. If you’re running >100 % MF without a booster, you’re probably losing more combat stats than it is worth.
