Who come here to complain about the thieves damage.

I do dungeons quite a lot and some wvwvw. I noticed one thing, the AI in these dungeons when I start attacking, face me and sometimes run to a wall and back themselves into a corner denying me access to their behinds rendering me almost useless with daggers

One of the things I noticed in people who cry about our damage in wvwvw and try to back it up with videos, I notice one thing, the thieves in these video are often knifing away at them from behind as they try to run away.

I mean really?
Do thieves as a profession really instill that much fear?
I have a harder time getting behind an AI mob than I do with players.

Perhaps the biggest difference is that the AI will always react with the same speed and in the same way, while players can be surprised. As it is, our chief weapons, surprise and fear, can be put to better use against players than against mobs.

It’s funny how “fight or flight” even extends into the video game world. I agree with the above poster, though, it’s to be expected, not necessarily because someone is stupid, just because they are human and therefore emotional (which can make even the smartest person turn stupid in a moment).

Basically what MMO pvp boils down to can be likened to this analogy:

“I just lost a boxing match. No I’ve never trained in boxing. No I didn’t put my hands up. No I didn’t try to avoid the punches. It doesn’t matter, this just proves that boxing is overpowered.”

Actually its more like this:

Clay vs. Tyson! Match of the century! Come see these two superstar heavyweights battle it out to determine who is boxing’s all-time best!

Except, Clay gets to go invisible every 3 seconds at random points during the fight.

Wait….what?

That would really only make sense if clay was the lightweight champion fighting tyson the heavyweight, then okay

I have more of a challenge fighting the sparring NPCs in HotM then fighting most actual people in PvP. It’s kind of sad how bad most people are.

Yep. PLUS ONE.

Playerbase in GW2 is really sad, compared to old school pvp games.

Hell, I bet none of these new gen carebears even KNOW about Quake 3 Arena.

EDIT: IF. IF (and I’ve seen much evidence IRL pointing to yes).. This game and other games are an indication of ‘fight or flight’ instincts, then the entire human population is a bunch of spineless cowards who cannot keep a clear mind while being afraid. Or, to put it in 4 words: YOU’RE ALL WEAK.

People who’ve played Dark Souls would know this! Same strategy used there, and it works!

A couple of days ago I was roaming and I found a lonely person. I engaged and killed him (stomped). A few seconds after that, another one came and started to fight me. I went to stealth and he immediately turned off and he started to ress his mate. O_O
He basically said “please backstab me!” and of course I did it.
So yes, some players are less smart than AI.

Are you kidding me? The other day I rolled support build with full stealth/acrobatics and it happened that I joined an sPvP game, team was me and another thief vs guardian and necro. My ally was capturing bases while the other two where trying to kill me and they couldn’t so they lost the game although they were winning for 100 points. After that one of them start complaining.

So long story short:
- We go Glass cannon – they whine: omg, thieves do so much dmg
- We go Support build – they whine: omg, we can’t kill them

This. The amount of times people start ressing when they see a thief stealth is too kitten high!

That would be OP idd, unless Tyson can summon a horde of minions or some clones of himself that follow Clay though stealth Hitting him constantly, not to mention aoe’s and channeled abilities.

This thread should be stickied and locked at the top of the forums. Specifically to let all other players who glance at the thief forums see that most thief players don’t understand how powerful stealth is against human beings.

Mobs re-aquire and know exactly where you are in stealth. They just stop hitting you until its over. Stealth does nothing to confuse mobs. To people, on the other hand, it’s very powerful.

The only reason this thread exists is because thief players don’t understand that. And they probably never will. They’ll just continue to whine as the balance patches roll in. As they have been ever since release.

If you guys want to flame me for pointing out facts, go ahead. I’m happily awaiting the next patch.

I will agree with you that in some respects the thief is currently out of line with all other classes except perhaps the mesmer. but stealth isn’t part of it. stealth isn’t the be all and end all its being made out to be. it is very very very easy to fight thieves in stealth. the reason i know this is that I don’t use a lot of stealth in my playstyle and come up against thieves a lot. you just need to bring some aoe and make a logical prediction of where they will go. Shadow refuge should act as a giant aoe bullseye to you, if one dissapears infront of you just keep mashing the buttons, believe me a lot of your attacks will continue to track. utilise channeled abilities and minions against thieves and listen/look for the visual and audio cue for stealth breaking to time dodges, and other damage mitigation abilities.

Yeah man, thieves never face other thieves nor Mesmers… we have no idea what stealth can to to human beings, specially because we (thieves) are all cyborgs.

the difference is we KNOW how it works and how to counter it, other players don’t wanna learn so they whine.

Prediction is a key part of the learning curve of many games Redscope. Being able to tell what others are going after you’ve lost sight of them by looking at the situation is extremely important.

A stealthed thief has very few productive options to them, and just about always moves in the same, predictable, patterns. This is mainly because they’re rarely stealthed for more than a few seconds. You can’t go one way, realize it’s a bad idea, then go the other, because it’ll already be too late.

Either the thief is trying to escape, or counter attack. Both are predictable. One will go for your backside, and the other will be making a bee-line for the nearest place where they can break line-of-sight. It shouldn’t be hard to tell based on the situation what he’s going to do either.

Basically what Volrath said. Since we all play Thieves, we know exactly how to counter other Thieves when they go into stealth. “He probably went here, so let’s swap to shortbow and AoE the heck out of that area” Stuff like that. Similar to Mesmers when fighting other Mesmers always know which one the real one is. Since I play both a Mesmer and a Thief ( and a warrior and engineer) I generally have very little trouble fighting either of those two classes.

TL;DR
It takes one to know one.
