Yaks Bend
LocknDog- level 80 thief
WOAH WHAT. Thats probably what everyone is thinking right now “Why would you ever suggest a casting weapon for a physical adventure type profession?”
Now hear me out when you think of assasins and ninja’s what do you think of? Nunchucks, shurikins, and staffs. Imagine roaming through wvwvw and leaping from the shadows and beating up your opponent with a staff.
I’m not sure about skills but it could be an awesome weapon, but I know other weapons will take priority such as dual swords and torch.
P.S. No greatswords pls
Melee staves wouldn’t be far-fetched. Heck, Mesmers take the greatsword, go “kitten melee” and fire a pink laser from it.
As long as it can be a legit martial arts styled weapon. It will irk me to no end how usoku’s needles are called ‘daggers’.
Sure, when I think of ninjas and assassins…but the class we’re talking about is a thief.
And yeah, no greatswords. That’s even worse.
If we want to take this honestly, real world ninjas didn’t run across rooftops in full black, throwing shurikens and disappearing in smoke. They would dress as common folks, and fought with whatever tools they could get their hands on.
Don’t our thieves use whatever weapons we can steal off of our enemies?

Thank you!
Shurikens/Throwing knives were apparently made from garden tools (small-hand-shovel/scoop -> flattened -> sharpened -> throwing knives)… just somewhere I read, not sure how accurate it is.
Ninja’s/Assassins/Rogues/Thieves are kind of over-hyped/exaggerated.
Assassins -> kill kitten, however possible, do w/e it takes to take out their target. A killing machine. Though roots of it (Hashishin), suggest theres more. Weapon wise, pretty sure anything goes with assassins.
Ninja’s -> tend to be a bit more on survivalist (and naturalistic/using environment) side of things though overlapping a with assassins, normal people/samurais gone ronin/rogue – but really anyone. Weapon wise, typically associated (media!) with things like shurikens/throwing knives, katanas (from samurais), various powders, rod weapons (staffs, among other things – possibly from martial artists), kamas…. though pretty sure they’re also pretty lenient with what they use.
Rogues -> Typically a person that strays from a “code”/order/law… For instance in the case of a samurai when they lose their master (be it death or disowned) their code dictates that they commit suicide. Should the samurai choose not to, he becomes a ronin/rogue. Going against his master would also qualify him as a rogue… In a way… ninjas, thieves, assassins are rogues….
Thieves -> they steal kitten. o.o Go figure. Weapon wise, something small/concealable (knives, your good old hands? … )… though anything will do? (just like others above)
If you dig more into assassins and ninjas, at least I came to realization, there’s no real clear-cut definition/rule-set for them. Plus a thief can be an assassin, a ninja can be a thief and so forth…
In a nutshell, the archetype that’s created between all of them is someone that’s lawless (be it code, order or the actual law), deceptive (to a degree), but set on getting kitten done (assassin-> kill, ninjas-> survive/kill, rogues -> persist/go against a code/order, thieves -> eyes on the prize).
Quick and dirty definitions/understandings.
Having said all that and back to the OP…
Rifles first! Staffs later.
If you really need a justification as to why rifles…
Assassin → assassinating people from high-rise building windows (like the movies!) with high-powered sniper rifles….
In-game, it would give us a (I hope) a 1200 range weapon. This point alone should trump staffs (which might fall into the melee category, depends on how developers tilt their heads… martial artist ninjas or spell casting ninjas).

this is a stupid idea, take it somewhere else before you get beat up punk
Not serious, this is an awesome idea. would be cool

I gotta disagree with rifles. To me, the concept for GW2 rifles are loud, noisy, and cumbersome. Trying to snipe someone miiight set off alarms everywhere. At least pistols are easy to conceal.
loud, noisy…set off alarms everywhere.
