So I feel like this last patch was a complete slap in the face to everyone who mains a thief. They needed some large loving somewhere.

I personally feel like thieves have been nerfed a lot more than buffed and any buffs we receive are very slight compared to the huge nerfs we have received.

Currently, they aren’t really worth it in tpvp/wvw. S/D is strong but you make a mistake and you die. Burst thieves don’t really match up against the condi meta. They can burst every 20-30s and condis burst is every 5-10s.

Thieves are pigeonholed into running specific builds vs. a warrior can literally run many different builds and still be effective.

I’ve been playing thief since I started the game and even have 2 level 80 thieves because I wanted an asura, but since my warrior is so much stronger I created my first ascended weapon for my warrior instead because it’s way stronger than my thief.

Does arenanet even understand the problems that thieves have or are they just too scared to buff it because people complain about them resetting fights or stealthing too much? The thief class should simply just not be a distraction for the enemy, which that’s pretty much what it is now. Even in wvw, I just let thieves run around while I kill/pressure other important classes. If one gets close to me I will skull crack it and hit it twice and he will either die or stun break and run away.

I really think that ANet does not understand thieves when the only thing they gave us was a 1s immob on #2. That’s going to last about .01s in wvw with my condi reduction and melandru runes+traits and maybe .03s in spvp. On top of it being weak, what is that main hand pistol supposed to kill with? Condis thieves are a joke and p/p is relatively unchanged with the 1s immob buff.

I’ll be playing thief from time to time, but warrior is going to become my main if arenanet keeps treating thief like this.

I wonder if any devs even play thief, I’m guessing no. They’re all playing warriors from what I hear. So that pretty much explains everything.

As long as stealth exists, people will complain about Thief until it’s nerfed into oblivion. Stealth is always a QQ problem in any MMO, even though Thief is hardly a problem compared to most other classes people will always cry “thif op pls nurf” instead of getting good.

Just something you need to be prepared to live with or reroll Warrior.

Game is out for over a year and thief didn’t get any significant change. Year ago was shadowstep temporarily disabled underwater because of some problems in WvW. No fix on that. Why? Probably even Anet knows that underwater combat is fail. Only thing worse is underwater combat balance. Some classes have less than half skills available (thief is one of them) under water so how do you want to balance them. It is not even justified like “you can’t use ground targeting under water”. Mesmer for example can, thief or guardian cannot.
Normal weapons are not in good state either. Dagger offhand num 4 (Dancing dagger) has nice range of 900 but you cant hit target further away than melee range. Double dagger skill 3 leaping deathblosom… Why do we have heavy condition based skill on power based weapon set? What brilliant mind came up with this idea? Pistol is almost the same case. Condition autoattack, “awesome” bodyshot with low damage and quite high price for what it does and unload (power based).
Larcenous strike cost should have been reduced with this nerf (which was bad idea imho, now it is like mesmer’s autoattack).
Improve utilities so we can use some other than what we use from start of the game. Venoms are weak without venomshare and with it they are just fine but then thief lacks other important things.
I wonder who came up with 1,5s cast on stun breaker /facepalm (destroy shadow trap) either remove cast time or remove stun breaker and reduce cooldown.
Traits are in bad shape too. So many of them has boring +X% damage or stuff like that. Like half of them is so bad that you will never take them(and some of them are even harmful for you). Oh and why the hidden nerf to shadow embrace? 10S ICD? Really?
I could write so many things but You wouldn’t read it anyway, like Thief feedback thread some time ago. So many good ideas inside, but you just chose to ignore them.

You really lack some developer playing thief in balance team, you have lack of insight in his play. I am not asking or demanding buffs but fixes and sense about functionality of skills. Like why does shadowstep require line of sight (also addition as some hidden patchnote)?
One last thing stop writing stupid stuff into patch notes about thief changes when you don’t change anything. It looks like you just write some stuff to show you did something while you did nothing.

I was really hoping for some game changing tweaks to thief. Some sort of change that would bring some build diversity to the class. Some sort of buff to skills or traits that made me want to go try it out at least and come up with a possible different build…

Sadly, all we got was 1s immobilize on pistol #2 and of bunch of random nerfs.

I just posted about this in another thread, but I’m extremely disappointed by the nerf (unintended? shortsighted?) to Pistol Whip and S/P. I don’t run the perma D/P build that every non-thief complains about so I’m not upset about some perceived stealth nerf. Rather, I’m upset that A-Net doesn’t seem to address that D/P perma-stealth is one of the large issues that people hate thieves. Nerfing a build such as S/P that really doesn’t use stealth seems completely ridiculous and shortsighted :/

I agree about warrior. I really really love thief and particularly love S/P and even the D/P trickery build that Caed often runs, but I’m just getting really disheartened. Oh well.

Eventually they’ll resort to adding class changers in gem store to fix Thief.
