Steal Keybidding
I have always used Tab. This is easy for me to reach using WASD for movement. It also works well for my other classes (war, mes, guard) since the F1 skill is the one I use most anyway.
I just use F1.

I changed up a lot of my key bindings. My Steal [F1] key is bound to Z.
F2 – X
F3 – C
F4 – V
Dodge is my middle mouse button.
Heal – E
Utility 1 – Q
Utility 2 – F
Utility 3 – R
Elite – Shift+E
Interact/Loot/Stomp/Rez – G
Different strokes for different folks, though.

On my thief, I use the following keybindings:
1: F
5:R
F1: E
Heal: X
Util 1: Mouse 5
Util 2: Mouse 4
Util 3: z
Elite: Button on my mouse above mouse
Dodge: shift
Works really well for me, but it may not work for others at all. It’s all about trial and error- find what works for you and what doesn’t

I use A because I use ESDF for movement. This is mostly because it frees up keys as I also play an Ele’s who have 4 different keys for class mechanic skills (Mes dose as well but it’s a bit less of a problem with them) and my hands are too small to be able to comfortably reach the F(x) keys. I used to use ctrl + movement keys when I was still using WASD but that was a bit awkward.

I have a Razer Naga, so all my key bindings have been moved to that mouse now. I really recommend getting one! It’s a real pain when you first get it, but when you get used to it your game is on a whole new level
Movement : A / D keys strafe unbinded from Q and E. W/S forward and backpeddle.
Key Binds : Steal is E , Health is Q , Z X C control skills , Shift + Space bar is my Elite skill
Also for my alts that uses auras fields and such shift+ 1-4
Universal keybinds that work on all gw2 professions and in all videogames and also fps games the more time you spend using the same keys the more muscle memory you build. I’ve used these keybinds since vanilla wow. Most of the keys used are default in many games only for none important stuff like sitting or pulling out a weapon. Using space bar and shift is one of the most amazing binds ever you never miss!
Edit : I’m not a fan of mmo mice. Not saying I am or that’s what a player should be. But no top player in any current videogame use a mmo mice and that’s fact. #esports

Playing mainly DD thief, my steal is mouse button 3, and i’ve always used infiltrator’s signet as mouse button 4 (side button on razer death adder) My key bindings are a little funny though, but it allows freedom of precast+blink without missing the key or hitting it too late, and easy to keep mobile :]
Skills 1-5 for me is Q, E, X, C, R
Heal – Alt +1
Utilities – 1, 2, 3
Elite – 4
Dodge – Mouse 5 (2nd side button)
Stomp – F
I use a great app that allows me to use an xbox controller. steal is direction pad up. I main an ele, and it still works.
aimed skills though take a LOT to get used to.
I have steal on `
It makes it really smooth and easy for pre-casting

Actually, i’m setup like this:
1-5 : weapon skills
Q : heal
E-T : utilities
C : elite
F1-F4 : Profession specific
I wonder, is there anyone who can actually reach 7-0 comfortably? xD
Also, the setup i use replaces not so useful default keys too
Get a new mouse?
Mines got 13 buttons and has a long warranty, it’s better than trying to apply 5 stacks of carpal tunnel all around wasd.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
Personally, I just use 6 for it, but I use an aftermarket keyboard and mouse with a lot of thumb buttons:
Merc stealth (I’ve been in love with this keyboard layout since the original zboard merc)

The smallish space/c buttons and double-row arced number keys give great access to hotkeys, and it’s easy to use the hotkeys while moving because of the oversized WASD
I use 1-5 as normal, steal on 6 (and the other f keys on RFV for other classes) and then 7-0 for heals-elite, and c for “show ally nametags” so that I never lose red names but can easily see green names whenever I want.

The high concentration of thumb buttons with big surfaces and easy to learn positions I use to bind dodge, stow weapon, weapon swap, walk, ventrilo push to talk, etc. I use several of the other buttons for inventory, map, etc. I like dodge and swap on the mouse as it makes it very easy to swap/dodge any direction at a moment’s notice and it becomes impossible to fat finger and screw it up.
I’ve used this setup for a couple years now and I find I can’t play games without them any more. Pricey peripherals, but they’re well built and give great ergonomic and intuitive layouts that are easy to learn and give you quick access to all the buttons you’re likely to need for any game.
Also, they’re both black with blue LEDs in them which matches my other gear, and that makes be happy

Yup.
I run stock controls except I’ve bound F3 to R for my ranger and ele, put dodge on shift, jump on space, and have weapon swap mouse-bound (still `).
Idk what build you play, but I recommend keeping it on your left-hand ring finger, for on D/D, you need to be pressing steal + w + 5 at the same time, which for the most part is achievable only through stealing off your left hand ring finger hitting F1, or using bound mouse keys.
But I even use bound mouse keys for infil signet as well, so it ends up being bound mouse 5’, 4’, 3’, 2’ (venom and signet might stacks) → 5+F1+ w/d strafe → 1.
Or in terms of fingers:
RH utility activation while moving to set up → Left index (CnD) + Left ring (steal) + move forward (Left middle) followed by a post-depression CnD Left-index → 1, with pinky and thumb ready on dodge and jump, respectively, keeping all fingers in use for something specific.

I don’t understand why no one uses ` as thief… it’s right beside the 1 key so it keeps everything so close together
