Saw this in PvE. I have no idea what its status is in other environments, but would guess it’s the same.

I noticed today that on a low-level thief that, even when unable to use other skills (because, say, I’ve been knocked down by an attack, and everything is on cool-down), I’m still able to use “Steal”, and that the Shadowstep component still acts to move me around (which seems counter-intuitive). I’ve levelled a couple of thieves before, but never noticed it. Has it always been the case, or is this a bug?

Always worked like that.

It’s always been that way; all instant cast abilities are usable while stunned, dazed or while dodging. The rifle turret toolbelt skill on engi and lightning flash on ele are other examples of instant cast abilities that work without being stunbreaks.

I’d never realised that. Thanks for the info!

Useful for timing an interrupt while stunned. Get the CC off and a possible PI whil eyou wait to be …uhh…un-stunned?…stunless?

Steal isn’t exactly unruptable since it doesn’t applies all its effects at once, meaning you can get rupted between each effect’s frame. But that happens rarely, as far as I remember it happened to me 4 or 5 times where I managed to rupt other thieves steal.

You can do fun stuff with instant skills, not only during stun phases.

Pretty much every actions with a loading bar are not interrupted by instant cast.
You can start opening a chest, shadowstep 1,200 units away and shadow step back to loot it. Same for mining / logging. Pretty fun to do and sometimes useful to avoid AOEs during mining.
