Where can you see informations about next patch?
Sycaria – lvl 80 Thief
Yes, thanks for obeying all the noobs who cried about it. My p/d will be completly broken again now… With this change, even the mesmer nerf doesn’t really bother me.

Have you ever played against a 1on1 vs a experienced P/D Thief? Maybe he meant “completly broken” in terms of OP. Where I’d tend to agree with him to a degree.
Unlike melee thiefs the stealthed movement of P/Ds is hardly predictable and they are invisible up to half of the time while creating strong pressure via bleeds. The focus on condition damage allows them to stay rather tanky (carrion, rabid or even shaman gear) and they have more room for defensive utilities like shadow step than 1-shot-builds. This plus the ridiculous condition removal of Shadow’s Embrace every time they stealth, which is basically back at a 3-4sec CD makes them (at least skilled ones of their kind) nearly impossible to counter. Even if you manage to dodge/cc them when they come in for CnD now and then, they’ll just port back for a moment, heal up and come back. Backstabbers at least really get hurt when you catch them off guard.
P/D thiefs, at least those I know, of course lack burst, but the condition pressure combined with tankiness, mobility and stealth makes them very frustrating to play against. In my opinion it is one of the last builds, which needs remarkable a buff in WvW.
Also I find it kind of inconsistent that, for example professions which use retal/confusion will have to deal with the corresponding “sPvP-malus” while others get to play with their full “PvE-efficiency”.

First show me a decent P/D build that focuses on bleeds or any consistent conditions. Obviously you have no idea how a P/D thief plays. Second, CnD isn’t even in the P/D toolset. (Only exists for dagger OH.) So your description on vs. P/D needs a little work. Good piece of fiction though.

You are confusing p/d with d/p…

Well said. In fact, retalation and confusion based builds are one of the few ones that sometimes put a fight against my p/d . Another build that can still fight back is d/p thief, but only because they also enjoy that ridiculously op trait called shadow’s embrace.

Hell, you’re absolutely right. My apologies Silinsar.6298. I don’t know how to read.
Still the question remains, if they changed it because wvwvw in the first place, why keep it at 4s in sPvP since it was never a problem in that environment?

Personally, I think that it’s a way to attempt to keep the QQers happy by saying that stealth was nerfed in the games official PvP format.
;)
all is vain
From a Hot Join PvP view, I think the reason why they kept 4s revealed debuff in PvP is because newbies have an easier time to fight against thieves. Didn’t they mention in the last SotG that they are balancing the game around good and bad players?

edited nvm, read down and saw that you realized what you did and corrected yourself. Ignore meeeeeeeee

Oh goody, time for more perma-stealth because of bad rendering. x_x
Very much so thank you. Was disgusting trying to use this. My gw2 playing time was dropped down to nothing except doing my dailies but now I will be able to enjoy my favorite class again! All the other nerfs I can see as being warranted, they suck, but I see where you’re coming from.
The only tears here are tears of joy.
Really 1 second made a difference lol, yeah ok, what ever man

But 1 second did make a difference. If you’ve played a stealth heavy build, youd see that.

Truth. especially in PvE where stealth builds can actually run a rotation like other calsses do, and need to do so, and in PvP you were informed with that knowledge so you never needed to actually stop what you were doing and search the tiny buff monitor for the revealed debuff. In short, once you got it, the timing worked out in such a way that you could use autoattacks to learn revealed and use it naturally.
At 4s what happenned was that the timing changed to 4.5 autoattacks, so there was this no man’s land after the fourth auto, where to hit your rotation ON A STATIONARY TARGET you literally had to either watch revealed or watch your own cast bar. It screwed up the ability for stealth builds to actually know when they could stealth. it was messy, counterintuitive, required playing the interface rather than the game, and most importantly created too much potential for wasting stealth actions on even a minor amount of lag.
I was running blinding P/D in PVE at the time and I tried, really tried for about a week to learn the new timing, but it was borderline impossible due to the way latency affects timings in the .5 seconds range. I could time the attacks on a stopwatch and still waste stealth on the tail end of revealed wheras the 3s version prevented this from ever happenning because the stealth was qued behind another ability and it synced perfectly. Thus, even with latency, 3 attacks was always the same amount of time serverside, and your stealths were reliable without constantly staring at the interface. Not to mention the net DPS loss of having to use an extra auto and then .5 seconds of dead time wherin nothing was filling the gap was a massive damage nerf primarily to builds that relied on sustained damage.
I will put a silver lining on that unfortunate patch though. it encouraged me to try an acrobatics build, and I discovered that acrobatics is a lot of fun, and that I’m good at it, and that has improved my play as a thief overall. I might even split time between stealth and acro after the 30th since both builds use the same gear aside from weapons and respeccing traits is cheap. So I guess its cool that it got me out of my bubble.

Unless I misheard, isn’t the revert to 3 seconds only for PVE?
PvE AND WvW according the the guru SOTG interview. Though I guess we won’t really know until patch day.

Eh, I wouldn’t thank them too much. The clear implication they gave in the video was that it was reverted for PvE only because PvE Thieves were “crying” about the change a lot, WvW got the change because it’s still connected to PvE right now, and sPvP was left with it not because it needed it, but because no one was really complaining about it there.

he said a lot of things were crying and besides, so what about the reasoning behind it. The truth is they messed with the feel of the build and they know it was a stupid decision. If they didn’t know it was a stupid decision they wouldn’t have reverted it.

people like you make me lol. Maybe try playing the class both before and after that 1s nerf then you might actually know what you’re talking about. Nobody cared about the dps nerf (around 15-20%) that associated with that 1s, it was the disgusting feel it brought to the class. Before everything flowed, after the nerf, everything was stuttered and gross. It has been explained many times and if you want to just blatantly say blargh 1s is nothing you noobs blargh, then that’s just showing who really is ignorant here.
