The 1H Sword Idea.
Personally I would prefer the thief to be able to use two swords.
Gyr Wolfchild: Norn Ranger lv71
Fenris Wolfchild: Human Thief lv80
I think both single-wielding and dual-wielding skills should have been Thief exclusives to begin with. The dual wielding combinations can stay the same, but wielding only 1 weapon would give 5 skills exclusively for that weapon.
Sword Only – High damage with emphasis on parrying and snares.
Dagger Main-hand only – High damage with emphasis on evasion and interrupts (using the free hand).
Dagger Off-hand only – Low damage, massive arsenal of defensive options ie. evades, parries, blinds or stealths. Used when being pushed back on the defensive and trying to make a getaway or keep foes busy while backup approaches or to keep aggro while allies heal up/revive.
Pistol Main-hand only – Condition damage with close-range defences eg. interrupts, short snares.
Pistol Off-hand only – Direct damage, close/mid-range hybrid, using the free hand and footwork to root/evade foes while bouncing bullets between them and switching shots between targets (think of an Equilibrium Gun Kata situation).
I think this sort of skill setup emphasises what a Thief should be about, namely agility, improvisation and guile. Using only an off-hand is really Thief-y to me.

Bad idea : using a single 1h weapon you lose on the bonus stats from the offhand weapon.

Remove “Corrosive Traps” from Deadly Arts (nobody uses that, ever). Instead, have “Hands Free”, increasing the stats of a one-handed weapon by a co-efficient of 0.6 when not using a second weapon. Not quite the stats of a full two-handed or two weapons (that would imply that you get a second weapon for free and no doubt cause QQing everywhere), but enough to justify the unique weapon sets by traiting for them. Of course, the skills themselves need to be well-thought out to avoid them becoming redundant regardless.
