The fundamental flaws of Thief's mechanics
Haste is broken, not those.
They’ve already nerfed heartseeker – if you cant deal with the new kitten version, you should probably work on your skills, or play a game more friendly to your skill type (not being a kitten here).
Unless you’re Immobilized ,crippled, or chilled, you can literally WALK out of the last 2 swings of pistol whip – without haste, its a lackluster skill – it hits about as hard as the 3 swing auto-attack combo (except you’re rooted to the ground while using it, and the last swing doesn’t apply weakness and cripple). If you’re crippled/chilled, you can still dodge roll out of the last 2 swings.
pre-ordered HOT at this point,
save yourself the money and don’t bother.
man I love thiefs coming and defending their state. Pistolwhip is broken ability. heart seeker was just shifted damage so it is more of an execute than 1 button spam. Its still too strong though as a gap closer and finisher below 40%. Got forbid thiefs will need to swap their weapons from pistol whip to dagger
Pistol whip, haste, heartseeker, etc, all of these are cheap abilities and anyone who has to rely on these to get kills is pure trash. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve 1v1’d other thieves in WvW and kitten on them because all they can do is spam heartseeker and are totally useless when their initiative goes. I really only think quickness needs to be removed or severely nerfed as an ability for thieves. It isn’t really fair to nerf thieves and leave warriors with fury/haste/might + rush + hb when that is just as bullkitten. not to mention it is often finished by that directional sword spinning attack that does like 8k+ damage.
Since noone in their right mind can actually believe this garbage, reporting thread for trolling. Especially since the subject has like 10 threads on the front page at all times
Yea, how dare those thieves disagree with my blatantly uninformed and anecdotal statement that they are too hard for me to deal with.
How dare they.
-.-
Sword #2 what.
Thiefs have probably the most powerful abilities our of all classes when it comes to initiative cost.
Heart Seeker, Pistol Whip, Sword #2
they have different mechanics build into 1 ability and that what makes them powerful.
The problem I see with a thief class is not how powerful their abilities are its how easy it is to get them off (burn out and get a kill). Thiefs have plenty of initiative and that what causes the main problem.
I think the best way to balance them is to actually make thiefs start with 0 initiative in a fight and build it up through using their #1 abilities and then use initiative to get a kill. With that I think we can make them a bit more tanky but their survivability is really good if you add stealth into that factor.
Bottom line is Thief is at a great advantage vs other classes when they have full initiative and I think that the mechanic needs to be the opposite where they start with 0 but build it up pretty fast.
0 ini? Are u serious man? The match starts with 0 ini, thief autoattack like a stupid guy and all other cankittenhim before he can attack with skill?
In the meantime all others characters can SPAM all 10 skill of two set of weapon. Reallykitten
How about we just take Initiative off and put it on the generic cooldown system.
Then we can sit back and watch as people who aren’t playing well still get stomped, and people who learn the system and find a new way to excel still do the stomping.
I’m for it.
First it was Hundred Blades and Bull’s Rush and even Endure Pain. This was before the game was even live. Then Heartseeker, and soon after Pistol Whip. Also Stealth in general. I can’t wait to see what the next target is. I’ve seen a lot of Guardian kvetching, but I want it to be Rangers so we can see all the Ranged is OP arguments within the context of GW2’s design and mechanics.
Those will be good.

That is, quite easily, without question, indubitably, the single dumbest idea I’ve heard yet. It’s so incredibly bad, I’m almost at a loss for words on a rebuttal. You’re essentially asking for thieves to stand there just autoattacking while every other class is blowing through their cooldowns, even though thief is supposed to be the class that jumps into a fight, unloads, then retreats. Just… no. I need an aspirin now.

Next target has already started. Dagger Storm. Just because someone put out an entertaining video of them in full exotic gear in an organized group pubstomping a giant zerg with this ability.
Rofl, play a Thief and actually try to execute a pistol whip in any fast paced pvp scenario against a half competant player. No. If anything, it’s UNDERPOWERED because it’s a self root, and technically a self stun for 3 seconds. (Cannot double tap dodge or move while it is executing).
As for the Thief starting with 0 initiative, I’m not even going to post a rebuttal, that’s the absolute biggest joke of a “balance” change I’ve ever heard, and really shows, how stupid people can be, and just blatantly want every class but “theirs” to be nerfed into an extreme underpowered state, which is the start of what ruins MMOs, and class balance, and honestly, posting something as dumb as that, I’d be embarrassed to even poke my head back into these forums.
Someone else mentioned the “cooldown system” which is already in place, just not for every ability, and I think it is working as intended, matter of fact some stealth cooldowns need lowered slightly.
Or perhaps he meant to incorporate cooldowns into weapon 1-5 skills, which I see no point, because initiative already limits them plenty, if you spam blinds, you aren’t dpsing, if you are spamming dps, you aren’t avoiding damage, which is where you need to find that happy medium,
Ehh it is the thief forum.. Ofc they defend their class..
HS miss a lot these days.. Spaming it will cost survivability.. Other classes can change attunement, tool kit or weapons to håget a set new abilities with fresh cooldowns.. Thives have to sit ducks while waiting for initiative.
It is honestly not broken, you just need to adapt it…
I think many players want the game, along the archtypes, to adapt to them, which is a bit sad…
