The reason I play sword thief
Let me guess: you’re a S/D Thief.
Try the 1% Build, then tell us how you really feel.

I play S/P + shortbow or P/P in PvE, S/D + shortbow in WvW. GS/LB banner regen bunker warrior in PvP. I never liked dagger.

IS/SR needed a nerf, it acted as a stun break and a condition cleanse with no cooldown and 1200 range.
Warrior is my second main but he doesn’t even have a third of the play time I have on my Thief because they’re so easy to play. Which makes it really boring imo.

It doesn’t really matter whether it needs the nerf or not, it’s just going to be very subpar now.

I agree with you. But then again….you know…it also sucks to play an under-performing set and have to make up for the lack of results with extra effort.

SR from sword is not a stun break
when you use it while down
you will be still down after SR
I don’t see any problem when thief have more breakstun than other class
as we should be the most mobility class

The CD is called initiative – if you spend it all teleporting away from stuns (Much different than breaking stuns, you’ll note) you have no initiative for anything else.
Just because you can press it quickly doesn’t mean there is no cost associated.
pre-ordered HOT at this point,
save yourself the money and don’t bother.

GTFO of thief forums. Most S/D builds dont use SA so there is not another condi removal you would trait or take opposed to many other builds. So again GTFO

Sure it’s not a stunbreak, but when you know where to place it (ledges that you can teleport to and from or behind walls) pretty much gives you enough time for the stun to run out while your enemy tries to get to you.
If you don’t know how to manage initiative (OR DODGE key attacks) and just relentlessly spam IS/SR then you’re a bad Thief.

Are you telling me if you don’t take condi removal you won’t be able to remove conditions!?
/mindblown

I think what he’s saying is most thief condi removal relies on a single trait. Our best utility condi removal is our best stunbreak so it has a competing role. Compared to warrior we have limited options for condi removal traits. If you like the warrior defense line, you can pick up CI, and if you like tactics you have access to lung capacity for condition removal. In addition, the powerful condi removal/prevention traits aren’t in direct competition with the best stunbreaks.
Edit: Another thought, is that they could reduce the range of return to 600 also which would still be a significant nerf but not entirely break the usefulness of S/X.

Stun removal has been removed from this ability for a very long time, where have you been? It only removes ONE condition.
Keep complaining though, it’ll be completely removed from the game before January.

This was funny.
I was saying to a friend : By next year, when you press the sword #2
the sword transforms into a dead fish to slap your foe -
like a Monty Python skit.
Actually, the next patch reminds me of the “Spanish Inquisition.”

Whats wrong with a class that dies in 2-3 hits having a stun break and condition cleanse; that being the only condition cleanse aside from a signet that drops 1 every 30~ seconds. ;/ Plus using it for cond cleanse shuts off your offensive capabilities.
I’ll trade it though if I can have Signet of Malice be as OP as Regeneration and banner and be able to drop conditions everytime I use my strongest attack. Warrior wouldn’t need IS though with 9000 gap closers that move them faster than any other class.

The problem with this nerf is that thief lacks reliable stun break utilities. Shadowstep is good but has a 50 second cooldown. RFI is good but has a 60 second cooldown. Haste is a terrible stunbreak because it takes away your endurance and leaves you helpless against that warrior HB, on top of the 60 second cooldown. Infiltrator’s Signet is decent at best, but is hardly a desirable skill for a sword thief that has a targeted teleport already and again, in most situations you’ll want to get AWAY from the enemy upon breaking a stun.
Point being, in order to justify this kind of nerf they need to give thieves more reliable access to stun breakers and/or stability to compensate.
