Help requested. I just had this idea looking at the traits, that it is possible to have a thief who can pretty much constantly dodge or evade, and can heal, cleanse conditions, do damage, etc while doing so. I haven’t picked a stat set; obviously needs toughness to pull aggro. Suggestions? This is a fun thought exercise for me, but if this could have practical application somewhere, please tell me.

Huh, cool. Interesting choice on the stat set. Hadn’t considered going pure condi instead of hybrid, but it makes sense for a tank. I kinda assumed the endless dodges would suffice.

Also I should have updated: I switched vigorous recovery for pain response. Someone elsewhere pointed out that I had way more than 100% vigor uptime.

Thanks for the response though! I will bookmark your build for reference.

I assume you are talking about PvE because you mention aggro. If you are looking to tank on thief you only want enough toughness to get slightly over 1,400. All classes aside from tank should have 1,000 toughness in optimal conditions (Warrior gains 400 while reviving allies). If you really want to make sure you have aggro you could run full Trailblazer’s but I’d recommend using Viper’s or Berserker’s with only enough Knight’s or Trailblazer’s to get over 1,400 toughness.

For raids, if this is about raids, your tank should be able to move when he must and to stand when he doesn’t. If you have to dodge around to avoid damage, the boss will follow you every step and your raid party will go nuts. That’s why Chrono is so popular: He blocks.

I did tank Vale Guardian on a thief. The trick is to take a dps build, use as little toughness as possible to hold aggro and to equip Invigoratin Precision. You dodge blues with Staff 5 or dodge against a wall and facetank everything else.

Everything can tank Gorseval, except maybe the dps tempest. No tank for Sabetha or Wing 2. Everything can tank KC. For Xera, beeing able to migate damage without moving is even more important. So no dodging, and no idea if IP’s self heal works good enough against the confusion.

I was kinda wondering about the movement thing, that’s why I went with Lotus, I think it involves the least movement? But yeah, I know there will be others that will be preferred for tanking, I’m just theorycrafting this because it was rattling around in my head and I wanted to see what the larger thief community thought of it. And to stop the rattling.
