Thief Build.
Leveling shortbow is my favorite. Good aoe in case you get a double or triple pull on accident, awesome kiting, awesome power.
well i prefer sword spec pistolwhip and you easily kill 1-3 mobs … fore more i prefer shortbow too because you can easily kill everything at big event fights etc…
So far, I’m using Dual Daggers / Shortbow
The following link will send u to a build editor W/ my build on it

Don’t chase shadows, cuz you just might find whats in ’em – Cpl Braunsberg
Well, I’m only ~22 now, but so far I’m going trickery & d/d and can easily dispatch 2-3 mobs 2-3 higher level than mine, provided they attack at the same time… I also use s/d and d/p in case I get bored, but that’s just for fun ^^
I have mixed feelings about the shortbow. I love the aoe so I can tag multiple enemies but in terms of actual power it feels like it sub-par. It could kite better if the backstep wasn’t broken. Whenever I use it I just rubberband back to where I was or I just jump in the air and at least get an evade. Poison is long lasting but does very little damage and rarely ticks so unless it’s a sustained fight it wont help. The bomb is pretty good it does decent damage but I can’t tell if it is more because the cast time is so long I could get in maybe 3 auto attacks for more or less damage. The shadowstep skill is useless. It’s too short range for travel not to mention the mechanics prevent most travel. You can’t use it to go up or cross gaps. I would never waste so much initiative to blind someone for one hit because almost all attacks are several hits.
I’ve been liking double pistols for straight up dps. Auto attacks bleed which is nice but if you’re going to maintain stacks you can only auto attack because the duration is so short. The 2nd skill is good for team fights if you need to stack vulnerability but again the cast time is really long so getting it to stack takes time. Unload is a great skill and deals a ton of damage. No real complaints here but I wish I didn’t have to give up my bleed stacks for it. I guess it’s a fair trade off. It’s nice to have an interrupt with a good cast time. 5th skill is about as useful as the shortbow’s but at least this time it’s a field so you can stack blinds. Still don’t use it because of the cost. I’d rather deal damage.
Sword I feel is an odd weapon for thief. With a pistol I feel like I’m supposed to constantly interrupt attacks to stay alive but thieves aren’t good at sustaining attacks so unless I kill you quick I’ll be out of attacks but I have to use some of those attacks just to stop from getting hit and kill time increases. Maybe there’s a better way to do it but I don’t see it. With a dagger I feel a little stronger because of the roll and dagger off-hand skills.
Dagger-Dagger seems to be designed for thieves. The problem I have with melee weapons for this class is you are supposed to avoid getting hit and getting close to the enemy is the worst way to do that. If you mix in some stealth utility and if your position is good D-D deals some good damage. However, all the stealth skills in the world can’t help you if you can’t use them. Very easy to get stun locked.
Pistol dagger is probably my favorite (for PvE) because kiting is so easy. shadowstep away, steal, shadow step away again. It’s fun and with dagger off hand mobs can’t keep up when crippled and can’t see you. The utility means giving up damage skills so it’s not as strong at DPS as other choices.
I haven’t figured out any good traits for thief yet. It of course depends what style of play you are using but I feel like all the skills I want are either too spread out or don’t do what I need them to.
Here is mine, the site doesnt have much to go with:

But my overall crit dmg % is at 45 and my health is 15k, atk is 2.7k and armor is around the 1800-1900
Thieves guild and dagger storm are both useful in single and group battles.
I like conditioning and crit, which is what the caltrops are for. Drop them badboys, evade and drop my cripple caltrops and then use death blossom for more aoe condition and finally drop down the elite skill if there is a big mob.

My main is a mesmer but I been trying thief and I kinda liked d/d or p/d. d/d is awesome damage and get things killed pretty fast, but p/d is way safer and you can easily kite monsters that are higher level than you.
Bow seemed ok, but didn’t think the damage was that great. Seemed good when I did dynamic events (maximized hits and drops…).
I LOVE running my tank thief with Signet of malice and dagger storm, stack a load of healing power on your armor weps and jewels and use dual daggers death blossom for fast aoe damage and healing.

I have been using sword/pistol – shortbow for the majority of the game. Level 80 now. My traits are 10/30/0/30/0.
My armor and accessories are stacked entirely for crit and condition damage.
My sword and short bow are runed to cause bleeding on critical, and my pistol is set to give me a stack of +condition damage per kill, up to 25 stacks.
All said and done, I have about a 60% chance to crit + 5% on dual skills + 5% when flanking.
Generally I just shoot shortbow in to a crowd and my arrows bounce between targets, crit-ing and proc-ing bleeding multiple times on each one (I love short bow crits, they bounce between targets like a pinball). I position myself where I can hit as many at once as possible, weapon swap, and pistol whip. Once again, hitting multiple enemies, multiple times, and stacking even more bleed on just about all of them.
After that I can pretty much walk away and watch them die. Even on Orr. You can wipe out 4-5 mobs at the same time in about 7 seconds and it’s almost 100% safe (some mobs chain stun/knock down, I started taking roll for initiative to prevent that).
Lots of fun.
Dragonbrand
This is what I am using. Focuses on steal, stealth, and blind for sneaky backstab goodness.
I’m doing a full melee thief. Sword-pistol switch with daggers. I use sword-dagger once in a while. Traits are focused on Criticals, Acrobatics and Trickery
It’s definitely challenging cuz u need good dodge reflexes to last in fights. But once your acro hits 20pts (Assassin’s reward trait) + signet of malice you won’t believe how much HP you regenerate without having to kite/run away. You can always create black powder combo field and use dagger storm to regen hp at critical moments (The blinding effect keeps enemies frm damaging u). The more mobs the merrier
