Thief D/D S/D or D/P?
D/P is meta hence it’s the best and “strongest” way to go.
Then again play what you enjoy. I’m a S/D player by nature and we just got the nerf bat but I don’t really care.I still play it and have fun doing so.
I’ve seen some great D/D’s still absolutely rocking it too lately.
Long story short play around and stick with what you enjoy more.If it suits your play-style and you enjoy it you have already won.
s/d but like firefly said play what u enjoy, tbh yes s/d has been hit by nerf stick but winning any kind of thief in a 1on1 is still possible.. basically nowadays its just jump or be jumped..
who ever makes first move is likely to win the fight.
D/P is the strongest weapon set.
S/d and D/d also works but not really strong like d/p.
Awesome, many thanks for all your advice and tips!
D/P has a high skill cap once you take off SA, play DA/CS/Tr and run full zerker or close to it, at least S/D has plenty of evades compared.
Plays completely opposite professions to his main Teef.

D/P never req high skills to play thats even without SA lol.
from what i’ve experienced d/p and p/d is super easiest set to play.
If you think D/P is just pressing #5 #2 to win, then you’re wrong.
It’s got simple rotations perhaps, but every single skill is useful at least.

I lik d/p the best simply because every skill is useful for something in that set. Unlike d/d…
S/d all skills are useful but some a lot less than others….

To be fair you could say that about any weapon combo. It’s the quality of the opponent that dictates the skill level required, not the weapon set.

It has a lower skill floor but a high skill cap due to all of the ways you can utilize the 1-5 skills.

Competitive viability on high tier? D/P> S/D > D/D.
Skill cap wise? S/D > D/P > D/D.
Anyway… That’s my opinion and D/D takes the shortest end of the stick. D/D now more than ever is a “burst or get bursted” set (no you don’t need Shadow Rejuv… Cloaked in Shadows is MUCH better for D/D).
D/P is easier to play because you got 3 one-step ways of dealing with an enemy and another two-step way. You can 1) blind, 2) Interrupt and 3) dodge as well as go for #5 to #2 for stealth. It’s also a bit more passive than S/D in my opinion. S/D requires you to act to what’s happening right then and there, knowing animations, effects… Enemy skills really (especially now with the Feline Grace + Vigour nerfs) while D/P Is more about the preparing before handed. I also find S/D players to be less predictable than D/P players.
But in the end it boils down to what works for you… If you enjoy D/D, go for it. Enjoy P/P? Go for it. It’s a game after all and unless you want to make it to top tier, I wouldn’t worry too much about anything like this.
d/d and s/p is the way to go kitten meta, scrubs.

So you know it.
Its simple and every single skills are useful
And yes most of them press hs bp combo and this is important key to win. If you arent doing it u are wrong.
so let me ask you. Which part is hard to play as d/p?
You can basically get in stealth anytime u want with so much blinds , got condi removal gap closer with blind , interrupts. Rotation is super simple.
Why do u think there are so many thieves use d/p in wvw and pvp thats because its strongest weapon set that all skills are useful and basically its easy to faceroll.
Did you even try vs d/p with s/d or d/d?
D/p is always easier to win than other weapon set thats because having access to so much blinds , gap closer and easy access to stealth u will always have advantage with opening burst.

Sorry, but by reading your other posts about D/P “perma stealthing”, the fact you say D/P is ‘faceroll’ in your opinion, is not valid. You base that on the fact has rotations that make the set easy to learn, but you still have to use those skill rotations well in different situations, be positionally aware and keep your init in check, you simply do not understand it is not quite that simple, or forgiving to play D/P.

U can keep justifying ur self that d/p is hard to play weapon set.
Let me guess u play d/p as roaming thief?
Most of people knows that d/p is easiest weapon set to play along with p/d.
Keep dreaming. Its a fact that d/p is much forviging set than d/d or s/d.
Skill cap wise? S/D > D/P > D/D.
Thanks for clarifying this as I was wondering why I’m always dying lately- thought it had something to do with the heavy nerfs my weaponset took while the answer is that I have no skill, I’m carried by my D/D weaponset.
Usually I run in WvW which I see it as a war. I prefer staying alive landing 14k+ backstab into zerker thief back and come here to read comments full of sadness about how easy D/P is. My advice would be – choose your playing style, then adjust gear, skills, rotations to get best out of it. Do not afraid to experiment. Here in forums you can find plenty of information about builds, play styles and etc. Good luck and do not forget to have fun with thief.

I think he meant that no matter how good you are, there’s a limit to what that weaponset can do for you. D/D just doesn’t have the utility of the other 2 listed.

Thats right. Skill floor =/= skill cap. Low skill floor means it doesn´t need much skill to be somehow successful. Be it killing people or whatever. High skill cap means you can reach a higher point of skill and not getting limited cause of the weaponset. D/P has a low skill floor. Its “easy” to get into stealth, survive to a certain point and kill people. But you also need a kitten lot knowledge about your possibilities, other classes, key-skills, etc to get the full potential. Having usefull weapon-skills allows that. D/D is much more difficult to play in longer fights (come on, one-shotting people isn´t difficult) and the lack of equal useful weapon-skills as D/P hinder it.
I use P/P, what is the skill floor there? The cellar lol?
Crystal Desert
I played all three and i love them all very much. I must also admit that I have yet to master D/P play.
Let’s not kid ourselves here. in WvW the best players I have seen were either S/D or D/P, but that doesn’t make the D/D players sucked.
Also, we should all agree that the D/P skillset has the most utility because that #4 (Head Shot) is priceless. Being able to effectively use all those skill is another gameplan compared to S/D and D/D.

S/P, there are dozens of us! DOZENS!

Ok, thanks for the explanation.
I’m sometimes kind of brain afk lately.
Mabe a golem overload.
Anyway, I have been a pretty decent D/D thief back in the day before CnD magically missed half the time after a pvp patch (in february).

besides the fact that you cannot one shot ppl, playing DD is harder than DP in every way, anet nerfed DD, SD, SP so hard the only usefull set is DP, which is kinda cheap in some ways, comparing DD with DP, DP gets blind on will, stealth on will, instant 900 range shadowstep blind and interrupt, DD has stealth on hit, if you miss you’re screwed, a cripple that is semi usefull and an evade that has .5sec delay, does no to little damage and takes way too much ini.
no blind, no daze, no easy access to stealth, etc
Go for D/p good for training wheel and very very user friendly.
Between a master and apprentice, i would love to see the differences.
