Thief Elites are weak?
I find them just right.
Thief Guild give me the advantage that I need in 1vs1 when the fight is tough.
Basilisk is perfect when i run with my roaming party to stun and instant burst down an ennemy.
And Daggerstorm is powerful in a outmanned scenario, especially against projectile profession like Engineer (not bomb) or Bow Rangers.
The trick is to have the right elite equip at the right time since they can be really useless at the wrong moment. Like a Daggerstorm in a 1v1 against a Mesmer not using Duelist or Basilik Venom in a outmanned fight.
I pretty much always use basilisk venom. I thought daggerstorm was cool and really helpful at first, but its too situational. It also often kills me as im getting really low on health, but cant stealth up to regen. But a 1.5 sec stun every 45sec is always useful regardless of the situation. Especially now that my build is a bit more glassier. I never use thieves guild. Maybe i should try it, but they don’t seem to do a lot and im very attached to my basi venom now
Summoning skills tend to have long CD regardless of class.
I’d say Basilisk Venom is at the moment the most inferior.
Thieves Guild, imo, is the only one that is worthy to be an Elite skill. Everything else are nothing but Utility skills.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
TG is horrible imo – those guys have less hp and armour than 30/30/0/0/10 gc ele :P
Dagger Storm has some uses in PvE as well as in WvW raids.
However, I consider bask venom our best elite. It’d indeed really weak compared to several other skills (mesmer’s Magic Bullet, ele’s Shocking Aura) but at the end of the day it’s one more CC.
The major disadvantage about it, though, is that there too many ways of protecting yourself from it – random blind, aegis. With the aforementioned Magic Bullet, e.g., you can just AA and THEN use your cc.

Well, I’m using my Thieves Guild in sPvP only. They serve as a big distraction in 1vs1 and give you a nice interrupt (even if you can’t really control the timing). Either your opponent concentrate on killing them first, leaving you alone for the a couple second, or they don’t care about it and you get just enough damage for you to win the fight.
Daggerstorm is one of the few ways thieves can get access to stability, so that’s why I favor it over the other elites.
I too think they’re just fine.
Thieves Guild
I love this skill in duels. It can turn the tide with the chaos they create. Also, the ranged thief drop a black powder which he then proceeds to shoot through, blinding my target. He also uses a scorpion wire which can be used tactically to get an enemy alone for a few seconds. Useful in both WvW and PvP.
Basilisk Venom
One of the strongest when coupled with Lyssa runes. The low cooldown ensures a high uptime of boons and nice condition removal. Strong in most situations, but best for quickly bursting a target down.
Dagger Storm
Very situational, but very good when used right. This is the one I use most in PvE. Always use this when capping camps in WvW. It’s our only access to stability, which can be priceless when fighting decap engi or hambow warriors.

There’s been so many times that I needed it right away but have to wait on the activate time. I could see it being reasonable if the duration was longer, but we’re only talking about a little over 1 second here.

GC thieves only need a few seconds to burst someone, if they had an instant 1.5 second stun with no means to counter it, there would be no doubt in a near future nerf.
BV is great for “on-elite” runes however the lyssa nerf kind of screwed us out of that option and most seemed to of moved onto other runes. TG is good for 1v1 especially if you activate it in stealth to really surprise them but they do die really easy. Dagger storm is great in almost all situations whether you need stability (can dodge roll out of it to maintain) or against projectiles or just in general to cause mayhem.
Signet of malice + dagger storm in a zerg is quite fun ^^

Dagger Storm is nice for the Stability and a low cooldown Stun is always a help.
