Thief, How do you play
Usually you just press 1 or 2 all game and that’s pretty much thief in a nutshell.

That’s one extra button than I used on my Elementalist

really lame how you complain about Thieves in a topic you’ve made yourself and then jump in here to say more of the same stories.

Still leveling, only 63. Solo I prefer D/D for flying blossom of death. I’ve found that it is fun and effective but in dungeons I spend a lot of time trying to get back on my feet. In a group I am starting to use P/P simply for the ranged survivability. If incoming damage isn’t bad and others are staying alive I’ll use Unload, if people are hurting I’ll Black Powder.
Unfortunately my P/D Cloak n Dagger blind build did not work as well as I’d hoped for keeping damage lower.
Blood~
Lvl 72 here, I play with D/D while soloing, just press 1 and 2 on single target or 3 if there are two or more targets, on group events where there is a lot of aoe going I prefer to stand back and switch to P/P while spamming unload…
Yeah… Fun.
Sword/pistol
Press 3 and sometimes press haste too…
in dungeons usually shortbow/pistol pistol….
press 1 and 3 on pistol pistol pistol… occassionally 5! and on short bow I press 1 2 and 4!
Dagger/pistol and shortbow.
I’m more concerned with staying alive. Glass cannons are a terrible idea in this game. Worse, I’ve heard some bosses heal on condition damage. Shortbow works OK for crowds, much better than the pistol but still so slow.
I work great in a team thanks to weakness-causing skale venom (using it sped up killing the champion giant by maybe 3-4 minutes!) and I’ll get even better once I unlock venomous aura, but soloing can be a challenge especially against veteran enemies. The thieves guild skill is a must.
I’m not touching PvP until I hit 80 and finish the build.
Right now Sword/Pistol.
It’s not quite as exciting as my Dagger/Dagger build – but I am enjoying the ability to stand in with a mob and take no damage. The trade-off on a veteran+ fight is that you need to conserve your initiative for Black Powder shots so you don’t get as much burst damage in. I use the traits that apply poison, weaken and increase my power instead. Also Thieves Guild.
Sometimes you need to either fire off a Headshot as an interrupt or step around the mob. Those fire-breathing lizards are an example: they have a bursting light animation to show they are about to breath. The Black Powder smoke cloud keeps the mob blinded – but only physical attacks miss. You still take damage in a fire stream. Headshot stops that quickly.
I am thinking about switching one Trait out for the one that regenerates an extra initiative every 10 seconds – to see if it helps. I have the skill which gives me an additional 3 already.
Still – in a group setting this set-up works very well. I keep the mob blinded and essentially damage-impotent while my friends tear it down.
It’s nice.
