Had GW2 at launch but stopped due to other commitments. Just started playing again and I used some sort of scroll I had to instantly level up to 20. Was looking for some tips on weapons to use, where to put traits (when I unlock them) ,what utility skills could be helpful for leveling and just some general advice on leveling a thief and what it is like.

Hi there. Sorry for the late post and I hope you read it.
Personally for me I used dagger with a pistol offhand and then I use a shortbow for my other weapon. Some tips are to use the pistol 5 (blind field) to make sure the thing you’re fighting doesnt kill you. I use the signet the gives you a 25% increase in movement to get around quicker and I also use the battle signet, the one that increases power. I also use shadowstep for increased mobility but you can choose whatever you like. For the 4th utility, the last one, you dont get to unlock it until level 30. But when you do I suggest getting thieves guild because it causes to other thieves to pop up and helps you kill your target. Its pretty helpful. You unlock traits at level 30 too i think. For this i suggest putting most of your points in the power tree. I also strongly suggest you choose what you want to switch it if you dont like it just to get a feel for all the traits and what they can do.

I Would strongly recommend not using dagger dagger because you won’t want to use anything else! I started with them and now I just can’t put myself up to using my sword or pistols.
Knowing I was going to have to unlock the traits, I picked ones I could live with so I picked the defense heal line for more stealth, stealth utilities and usually the precision signet with that other 50% movement while stealth. My forays into open world have been fun just evading and hiding from stuff. I mostly use either deception or tricks like the caltrops for aoe bleed (hybrid build). Waited to get back into dungeons until I got more traits. With this spec, it is far too easy to survive in regular dungeons and still manage to kill stuff.
