“Revenant is actual proof that devs read the necromancer forum”
Honestly. I am currently working on a Thief after finishing off mesmer, but Im so curious as to how everyone decided what race they chose. most of the time I see human females running around on my server as thieves using T3 cultural (which is amazing), but I chose to go sylvari simply because all my other characters was human.
Why did you choose the race you did and if you could go back and change, would you and for what reason?
Human, i did preview and i saw at other thieves, desided that i can’t pass that armor looks mutch better at human. and we got the assassin t3
human.. the chill + poison on reaper of grenth can actually be devastating if used on a thief. give that extra push for a kill..
Charr. Because I like Charr. Yup.
Smallest human girl possible, because shes pretty.
Simple, Charr make about as much sense as orc rogues in warcraft, big and bulky doesn’t make quick and sneaky.
Asura are freaky little midget babies that IMHO need to be eradicated from the surface of Tyria.
The chia pet people who. ((As per popular rumors)) Are the offspring of the yet unnamed and unseen forest dragon. A popular rumor being the pale tree is actually the forest dragon has been circulating for a bit… And of course “More violets, less violence….”
Clearly the superior option is the master race that is humans.
Of course my post is completely biased. So in retrospect play what you want and just have fun. =P
Asura, because I can spam a blast finisher with their Poison AoE for 50s of weakness on a target.
Pain Inverter + Permablind is also kinda funny when soloing.
Big male norn, because to hell with your immersion. :P
First thief was because I wanted a Norn since GWEN, second was because Tier 1 medium human pants existed.

You know what’s really good at sneaking around? Lions and other felines.
Sigh, this is going to sound really silly, but I am already reconsidering the Sylvari for human. I want the T3 cultural bad, but I like Sylvari Mannerisms. I am not sure if I should keep the sylvari or remake and then make a ranger into a sylvari at this point ._.;
I played around with char creator until I’d managed to make something I liked, which was female Sylvari. I really like the looks of human T3 cultural but I wouldn’t go back and change to human for it, in part because I find the human buff sounds rather annoy-I COULD OUTRUN A CENTAAAAUUUR-ng, part because I do like (most of) the Sylvari VOs, part because humans are far too common for my vanity to allow me to main one and part because there’s still plenty of good looking armour left to choose from (not that I really knew that when I made the character though).
Norn…. people think im a warrior when i charge them >.> little do they know..
Human, cuz im human.
Asura. I just liked the way they looked, and now I can never see my self going for anything other than Asura. Their animations and emotes are just so funny / cute / silly and whatnot. Actually I ended up having Asura Thief, Mesmer, Guardian and Engineer…
I did consider the female human for the T3 cultural armor, but I’m glad I didn’t.
I actually read the GW books that cover lore between the first and second game, and Caithe just blew me away. So although I prefer male characters I the first character I made upon installing GW2 was a Sylvari thief.
I picked a human Thief. But I disappointed to find out that a Thief doesn’t steal anything other than a enemies skill.
Asura, because of the emotes + absolutely BA jumping sword-chains.
Either go with Asura (size advantage in wvw + great animations) or human (hot hot pixels).
T3 human armor has underboob… I think this settles the matter :P

For some Vigil legs > T3 underchest… just sayin’

I picked sylvari because I wanted to make camouflage Thief.

You can easily get the best from both worlds.
Charr Thief
You ask why?
Well, I cant play any Human-like Races, I hate it and asura dont look so sweet like the charr. Also are charr like lions, silent and deadly

How do you get anything done in game with that sort of distraction?
I wanted my main character to be descendant of my GW1 main character. I liked the profession (I played Assassin in GW1) and I went for it.
Also I think that Guild Wars humans are the best humans out of any MMO. The fact that they had all GW1 as the exclusive playable race helped a lot to stablish tons of lore about them. They’re closer to what Elves are in other MMOs: The race that had times of glory and was related to divinity but now is desperatly fighting for the small territory they have left.

Except they have an entire Legion dedicated to be sneaky… and you know, felines tend to be good at that. Even if they’re too big, you can always get the brawler bio option as there are many different approachs to Thief.

You should go to the lore forums. This topic has been brought thousands of times and all of them all evidence indicates the contrary, that te pale tree is not related to any elder dragon and the sylvari aren’t dragon minions (for example as proven by the Inquest, dragon minions can be corrupted by the power of other dragons, Sylvari can’t be corrupted at all by dragons, they die before being corrupted). There is a lot of proof and examples against the Pale Tree and the Sylvari being related to Elder Dragons.
Human Male thief. I know awkward that I didn’t make a female right?
Actually in GW1 my Assassin was my secondary main (main being a Mesmer).
He was a THOUSAND times more spoiled then my primary main. He had obsidian + chaos gloves and Margonite tonic on him. My Mesmer had.. Primeval lol.
Just passing on my assassin’s tradition. My thief now has t3 while my Mesmer (who is my main again) is rocking some somewhat cheap armor combinations.
Curse you thieves!!
Ok just wanted to verify this, as I’ve never really ‘examined’ it – so Asura are small and so harder to target when clicking with a mouse than Charr?

What what ? Man in this game is auto targeting and TAB button
Charr power !
(edited by Evilek.5690)
Err..not for me, I’m quite particular about who I attack and my tab just don’t grab fast enough.
I went Human Female because I felt the armor looked best on humans. Female because my Thief is a comic reference – I named her Stacey Pilgrim because in the Scott Pilgrim comic and film Stacey shows up out of nowhere to harass her brother, then ninjas out.
I’m not a fan of female T3, though. T2 is great, with some Vigil or Whispers pieces.
I do wish I went sylvari in hindsight, but I don’t want to reroll just for that.
(edited by PsionicDingo.2065)
I had Human Thief planned since before the release. But was weighing between male or female…a certain armor tipped the scale. ^^’ And why not? It’s one of the best medium armors there is…other being cash shop one and Norn cultural…
Asura made the best case for me, for lore reasons. Krewes are always in such fierce competition with each other, it makes sense that a few industrious Asura could make a killing in corporate espionage, dealing in stolen secrets and tech.
Besides, a smart thief is the best thief, and you don’t get much smarter than the Asura!
I have a Male Human Necromancer, Female Norn Warrior, and Male Norn Guardian. I wanted something that is close to human to be able to create the “Assassin’s Creed” look, but didn’t want another human as to experience the other stories. Ended up choosing Sylvari, and I’m not one bit disappointed. Love the look, too bad I’m not home to take a screenshot
It’s the other way around for me. I planned on a Norn ranger, but first wanted to make a human descendant of my main GW1 character. Thief seemed appropriate for a human, and was also somewhat related to the rogue I’d come to like in NwN based mods.
So, anyway, I picked Thief for my human, rather the human for my Thief.
GW2 books: Charr thieves can get into ascalon city without anyone noticing them despite how big they are …
^My reason for a charr thief
What, everyone based it off aesthetics instead of mechanics?
I picked a Charr thief because Battle Roar is a decent utility when you’re stacking boon duration, and a good way to access Fury as a thief. Plus Shrapnel Mine is better than half the thief traps.
In retrospect, I’m pretty envious of Radiation Field and should probably have picked Asura.

A lot of ppl create their first character without studying what all the racial skills are. Most of the time they’ll be a rather high level before they really know all racial skills and cba to restart the character.
On the other hand: Racial skills aren’t rly that important, (nothing at all in PvP).
Human, my character is modeled after Dante from the Devil May Cry series.
Asura… too popular.
Humans… way too generic plus it would remind me of that godkitten hooded psychopath from Ubisoft.
Silvari… Well, not much different, even if I kind of like the cultural armor on them, it’s refreshing.
I considered making a Norn.
But Charr was the way to go as I really hate the typical assassin style everyone babble about due to too much animes and video games, and prefered an approach to a REAL equipment Thief with a duelist / warrior style.
Is there a list of T3 armors i can view for each race?
Is there a list of T3 armors i can view for each race?
Make a lvl 1 of each race and go to the starting city. Or go into spvp and preview all the armor in the game with the locker
Human, because this was going to be the FIRST game I played where I could have a legitamate looking human female thief that was dressed to kill, not dressed for fan service. (Others may like that and they can have that, but I want my thief to look like a thief. And this game actually allowed me to do that)
Asura because one day, we shall rule the world. In seriousness, think about it, it is already hard to see a thief, now take the smallest thief possible. I’m just a bit over twice the hight of a bunny. It’s amazing.
T3 Human male sold it for me.
Char T3 is pretty cool too, shame Charr aren’t.
All of my 80’s are Human.
Is there a list of T3 armors i can view for each race?
Charr, because I find their voices dreamy, mkay?
I feel like 80% of Thieves are the same Human Females in the same skimpy (T3?) outfit. So boring.
If you want to be unique, go Char. Every Char Thief is memorable.
