I was looking for a fun, storyline acceptable thief.

Human, a lot of the storyline has some sneaking involved
Sylvari?
Just looking for some personal opinions

Charr Ash Legion story is great for Thieves, but the Charr look crap as Thieves, imo. I have a male Sylvari but u regret not making a human simply because without access to the human cultural armours to mix abd match, Thieves look so lame.

Asura thieves are also great. Good animations, good dialogue. I had a sylvari one that I ended up deleting cause it was too stiff in its movements for thief. Human would be your best alternative choice to that imo.

It is hard to find a good look for a medium armor Charr, but they’re a bit of a rare sight which makes them more appealing for me. Charr armor sucks terribly all the way around anyways.

The only races I can really give recommendations on are Human and Sylvari, since I’ve played through all their early storylines.

For Human:
Poor (although it’s a little cliche, it fits) -> Dead Sister go well together, and probably fit the class the best. If you don’t want Poor, then Commoner -> Unknown Parents also mesh well.

For Sylvari:
I liked the combination of the White Stag and “Where life goes,” although The Shield of the Moon and “Act with Wisdom” also work well.

The third component of each race—which god were you blessed by or what cycle were you born in, respectively—are really more about personal preference and you character’s specific personality.

I’ve done the Ash Legion storyline on a Ranger, and I really enjoyed it, but I agree with other posters that Charr Thieves aren’t my favorite.

The human story-line fits a thief perfectly. I have leveled two human thieves, one went the street-rat option, which works great for a thief, but my second one went the path of a noble, who is kind of like a royal assassin.

The story archs with bandits, ministers, detective work… all fit great for a thief.

As for the norn… they are gigantic, so its hard to imagine them as a thief, but I could easily see a norn thief being a member of the snow leopard clan. Cunning, stealth, etc.

Charr… I haven’t played past level 10.

Sylvari to me look really cool as thieves, but their story doesn’t fit a thief at all.

I have never made an Asuran. I stay away from midgets in any game I play.

I’ve heard that before, but Caithe is a Thief. I have a harder time accepting Norn as Thieves, since it doesn’t really seem to fit their lore or “racial personality.”

Inquest armour works too. I had that one for a while, right now I have the same as you.

I tried Charr but it looked awful.
I tried Asura but, while the animations were good, the daggers were so small as to be nearly non-existant.
I didn’t want another Human. Although the cultural armor would be nice in the future.
I went Norn, with a smaller stature. Love it so far. Armor looks pretty good, but have no cultural to fall back on (looks crappy imo).

I chose a Charr Thief, got the smallest size and the smallest horns and went for the “tiger” look. For me it fits really good, it’s like a sneaky predator, perfect for the Ash Legion. The only issue is that is difficult to find good looking armor, but if you spend some time mixing armor and trying different combinations and colors you will have a unique, great looking character. And I hope they will fix the most annoying issues with the armor for the tails and shoulder clipping.

Asuran thief on the right.

I have a human ranger, and I feel like most of the armor sits best on a human. That being said I didn’t want to make a human thief as I feel that I see human thieves the most. I rolled a sylvari thief. Their T3 cultural looks awesome.

Here is my charr, looks pretty cool.

In my opinion, there is no story that matters for thief, just go race for looks, all story is forgotten after you been level 80 for 1 year.

Any armor advice OIIIIIO? Having a hard time getting my male norn thief to look awesome. Seekers is best coat I’ve seen and it’s a lvl 20 item.

The dyes look good to me though.

like with a starting line and a finish line
and related to the fact that thief can cover ground faster than any other class
