Thief Rifle
yeah pretty sure its a thief since no pets are around.
Bad Elementalist

it might be engi since there mid armor but they made his armor look stealthy
He is wearing brown, engineer colored clothing so I wouldn’t get too hype about that. Regardless, I think Thief’s specialization will probably be a sniper-themed thing anyways.
looks like engi to me

Engi get hammer specialisation thief probably get rifle one.

I hope that’s an engi.
Sadly, rifles are single target weapons that will never be balanced to be competitive with melee weapons.

It wouldn’t be “thief” anymore since all skills and mechanic change I’m thinking traits might as well or not we"ll see, could even be an ambusher/trap master and not sure if we get more than 1… Don’t forget to support the every 2 month balance cause, new is good new broken not so much.

It’s likely an engie. At this part of the trailer they’ve not shown any of the new weapon options for any classes yet. It’s building up tension for dramatic effect for the dragon that comes out of the shadows just a moment later. The actual “boom, new weapons” part happens later, when the trailer starts bombarding you with all the new features of the expansion one after the other. The first part is designed to build you up for that, the climax, and thus it is unlikely for them to throw rifle for thief in like that early in the trailer, before anything else. That would just feel… sloppy, from a film making perspective.
There’s also the fact that the other two character present in that scene aren’t carrying any new weapons for their classes (both either warrior and/or guardian) either, making it even more unlikely that the rifle carrying medium armor clad norn is a thief.
That’s not to say that rifle might not be a or the new weapon option for the thief, of course. I’m just saying people might be reading a little too much into this particular scene.
I think it actually is a thief. An engi would not need nor have any use for throwing knives (unless they are good at throwing knives). Hopefully it is rifle and is based off of this. I love how he designed it.

Apparently it was an obsession. Well, hopefully he does get his wish granted. It’ll be his little bit of legacy after all the crusading he’s done for this profession.

I’m an avid ranger player and have been since launch. If Thief got a rifle that followed that setup, I’d put down my ranger and level a thief immediately.
Still would prefer longbow.
Rifles are so clunky, and the “stand back and pew pew” doesn’t belong on thief at all.
Not to mention animations and models. Very un-thief-like to be firing a blunderbuss from the hip lol.

Try out the warrior animations for the rifle before you say that they’d be firing from the hip. Yes, thief is meant to be a very mobile class, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be that here.

Aw man if thieves actually get rifles… That would be so… Wicked… If they work well of course XD
I guess I am the only one who doesn’t want rifle for thieves, mainly cos it’d reduce the number of new melee weapon options which we might get with the expansion. If we get only one weapon and it’s rifle, I’ll just cry.

Definitely not. I rly hope we only get new melee options. For everyone else there is the ranger.
thief is getting rifle i can confirm, rewatched the trailer 5 times or so noticed something in the mursaat meeting scene
the norn is obviously a thief, wouldn’t make much sense to have 2 the same profession in the trailer when you show one every other class
Not very thief like… the name changes, Deadly Arts or Critical Strikes can be associated with a rifle thief specialised in them. Let’s see how creative they got and hope we eventually get 5 related to each trait line.

There are 10 players there alongside Rytlock. There’s at least 1 duplicate class among them (if none of them are a Revenant then 2). I wouldn’t call this proof. Also it’s worth noting that alongside that medium player earlier in the trailer there were two heavies, a Sylvari and a Human, using a sword/shield and hammer respectively, both of which are usable on both current heavies. Not every character in this trailer is meant to be spoiling something new – we can’t really gleam anything from it.

Not sure why people are getting all uppity about thieves having rifles.
What is thief basically? A bandit. What do bandits often carry? You guessed it. Rifles.
A thief is a person that steals goods. Many can see a bandit or a brigand, others see some kittenassin (and I freaking hate the amalgam), some see a cunning and dirty fighter.
The problem with Rifle and Thief is that the very gameplay is incompatible with the weapon. What would you make of a (probably) ~1200 range rifle when everything about you is about getting in the thick of things and out of it?

You’d make a sniper, and it’s important to remember that these Specializations aren’t just adding a new weapon your class can use. They’re adding Traits, skills, and mechanics, which means they could be anything from “Hmm, feels kind of different; that’s cool” to “Wow, this is just short of an entire new class!” I doubt Thief will give up its signature mechanics, like stealth, but that’ll be ANet’s design challenge: how to make it relatable to Thief while still making it feel different. Fortunately, we have (real world) precedence for a stealthy fighter that uses a long range rifle, so it’s a bit easier than trying to do something totally weird (like giving Thieves a Scepter or something).
I wouldn’t mind the idea of rifle for thieves. To fit the idea and play style of a thief (In and out easily, stealth, high burst and mobility), thief should only be able to use light weapons like dagger and sword, even sword is a bit heavy judging by the wind up time and recover after each swing. So axe and mace are out of the question.
What thief lacks at the moment is another 2 handed weapons, and the only weapon that would fit thief’s play style would be a rifle (Let’s face it, have you ever heard of rogue, thief, assassin with staff?)
Though I really would like thief to wield sword on off hand, it would add a lot of depth to the class than a 2-handed weapon because of dual skills
I bet dollars to donuts its not a rifle…
Its a shotgun

engineer got a modded shotgun, and they seem to be trying to differentiate between different gun types for different classes.

Well, theres 10 people there, and lets counting the new profession, theres only 9 profession so :P
yes i would love a shot gun too, but wouldn’t that be what a dagger do?
It cant be an engi, there’s no butt ugly hobosack on his back. I only want thief to get rifle if the new elite is nuclear launch. Then i can make a Ghost. Plenty of mindless zerglings to kill already in wvw, it only seems right. And anyone that hasn’t played Starcraft has no idea what i’m talking about.

Offcourse there is no hobosack on his back, he is holding a riffle..
As said before, rifle for thieves is just speculation…
Personally, i hate 2 handed weapons for thieves, i prefer single handed and offhanded weapons because of our lovely 1 handed mechanic that gives us so much more diversity with the middle skill…
Best we all stop asuming things, assumption is the mother of all frack ups… If its not a riffle for thieves, i can allready see the whining about Gw2 not delivering as they promissed…
I say duall axes, bor the better bandit feeling… Would really fit in well with the daggers and pistols and the mainhand sword…
