Thief Site
Seems the traffic would be hard to predict, but it would be nice. I’d like it.
It’s definitely something that I would be interested in, but I don’t think that it’s possible for you to really gauge the level of interest and traffic that you would receive based on 5-20 “go for it” posts on here.
The best thing you could probably do is a full website plan including costs/etc and weigh that up against the estimated size of the Thief forum communities on various websites and forums (including this one).
Good luck is all I can say, I hope it works out.
all is vain
I wasn’t planning to use an exact estimate, but if for example I only ended up getting 2-3 replies before this post sank from view, that wouldn’t look good for it.
I already know exactly how much it’ll cost me, but the time I would have to spend deliberately practicing with the Thief to verify facts or learn new things, and to collect information from across various forums and videos. That is something else entirely.
Without much traffic not only would I not make enough off it to reach a fair level of compensation for the time spent, but the information itself would largely be going to waste.

The problem is that you somehow need people to ‘find and like’ your site.
Main thing that would keep me attracted to such a site would be:
1. Builds and their strength weaknesses (vs x as well).
2. Gear checks. How would changing x affect my settings with a certain build.
3. Video’s
I’d say go for it and good luck! There is never a sure thing, just make it if you like working on it and enjoy the thief!
I’d find a thief site pretty nice.
Somewhere where discussions about Thieves can happen without all the “THIEF IS OP NERF PLZ!” whining that occurs over the forums (It’s not even limited to the thief forum, other class forums also include this)
What would keep me coming back to the site would be stuff like:
- Instructional videos – Either showing mechanics (For example, Steal/shadowstep stomping) or X vs Class videos with commentary (Usually more helpful than reading text instructions)
- Thief PvP/WvW videos – I like watching good thieves do amazing things in PvP/WvW. Unfortunately it’s hard to wade through all the bad stuff (GC’s 1 shotting up-level players in WvW)
Both of which would take a lot of time/effort to keep up to date (For example, various things may be affected in patches) and finding good videos will take a lot of work (Making them would also need a fair amount of work)
There’s two kinds of people… The quick and the dead”
There doesn’t seem to be a large level of interest in this, but I’m considering doing it anyway simply because I’d like to.
I’d really like to know of more suggestions any of you have for things you would like to see on the site.
Hmmm. Well, I enjoy pve, not wvw/pvp, and would like to see pve related things in addition to the rest.
Just a repository of useful information, minus the fanatical whining of the nerf crusaders, would be a huge improvement.
I’ve started work on the site, though I can’t say how long it’ll be before it’s ready.
Any opinions would continue to be helpful.
To help practice my art skills I’m also working on little GW2 Thief focused web comics for the site, but that definitely won’t be a real focus of the site.
I’ll also be sketching diagrams to go with various tips where helpful.
Sounds nice! Good to see something like this in the works; will be worth the wait.
Personally I wouldnt bother. First of all, you already tried with
no success. Secondly, and more importantly, this game is not
complicated at all compared to a game like Rift where there were
dozens of builds and skill-chains.
Pick any profession, and you will find the same couple main builds
that seem to be the most effective. Any search on google can find these.
People overthink the builds in this game, when in reality, the skill of the
player outweighs “I want to make sure I have the points in the right spot.”
I would love for there to be some kind of thief resource, especially for PvE.
I just started to get into doing dungeon runs and every group I get has no problems letting me how horrible I am at this game. The only advice I ever get is “roll a warrior.”
Every time I look up thief guides or builds they’re either for pvp/wvw or they’re old and idk if I should trust them.
Dungeons guides designed for thieves would be great.
Also, don’t use acronyms on guides. I don’t know what half of them mean and I always have to stop reading/watching to look them up.
Just some advice from someone who would benefit from and use your site.

Ah, Thief Dungeon guides are a good one. I’ll be sure to avoid acronyms as well; considering I have all the time in the world to write it out it’d just be lazy anyway.
I know of some areas where a Thief specifically can do awesome things in dungeons, like using Shadow Refuge to let the group skip certain enemies entirely.
Good luck and shoot me a msg if you need content/clips
There’s one thing I could really use help with at the moment. Rather than giving various parts of the site conventional labels like “Guides” or “Builds,” I wanted to give everything a Thief/Assassin theme while remaining legible. Like labeling the “Donate” button as “Give Tribute,” etc.
So ideas on what various things could be labeled as would be great.
At the moment I’m working on the Guides section, with various sub-categories like Techniques, Attributes/Equipment, Builds, PvP/PvE Strategies etc (not a complete/accurate list).
