Thief Steal Idea
Many people already suggested the same modification.
I’m more of the opinion that steal should give thieves not one, but 2 especific skills related to the stolen profession/mob (F2 & F3) and let thieves choose which one to use (using one will discard the other). That way, we could introduce more control or support options for thieves, without touching the already existing skills.
Also, many of the ‘steal traits’ should be merged with the existing minor traits, and be more evenly distributed across the different trait lines, thus, freeing space for some new major traits.
Finally, a slight reduction on steal cooldown would be perfect.
At that point, I fell from my bed, and awakened.
I think the questions that need to be asked are:
- What do you currently like about the current version of steal? (and why?)
- What do you not like about the current version of steal? (and why?)
- What would shore up the things you don’t like? (how?)
- What would you be willing to trade (if necessary)?
It seems Drazhar wants to be able to make use of steal as a closer/additional mobility even when storing a stolen item. Definitely nice, but I’m somewhat torn on it because…
- Warriors lose adrenaline over time, Mesmer’s can’t start a fight with 3 illusions
However - Necromancers can store up life force
I also must ask the question, in what scenarios are you in where you have a stolen item and want to use steal aside from general travel? That is, why not use the item and then steal?
I’m sure there are some, but curious about your thoughts on them too.
It seems, from Kyrion’s post, that Kyrion wants more options when stealing from a single player, not always the same thing from class X. I think wanting more options is a pretty good endeavour and doesn’t really require any tradeoffs (if done right, of course).

Well I mostly play PvE, so I usually save stolen items for bosses and while running around the map, the ability to use Steal for mobility while saving my item would be nice. And in combat, it does make a good gap closer. I don’t want to be forced to use my stolen item, especially since some are hard to come by.
Currently, I rarely press F1. If my suggestion were to be implemented, I know I would be using the class mechanic alot more. And after all the nerfs that the thief has gotten, I don’t really see my suggestion as being op. If anything, it will bring the class back on par with other classes’ mechanics.
I’ve thought about it a bit more and I don’t think it’s really OP either Drazhar. The worst scenarios I could think of were if a Thief used the item from a Guardian (4s stun) and then stole another one from a guardian … but they can already do that.

Well they could add a brief cooldown before being able to use a stolen skill again. That would eliminate the possibility of the 8 second daze you were talking about.

There already is a 10 second cooldown on using same-type steals.
