Thief Vs Mesmer
It sucks that this Mesmer has no access to BF, blink, decoy or even dodge all which you can do blinded and regardless of stealth. Auto attack removes blind btw.
This mesmer has a pointy hat. Thinks he is Merlin,or something. Still need to decoy, dude.
Poor mesmer doesn’t stand a chance
Solution: nerf thief
(or dodge roll, I always confuse those 2)
Thieves are supposed to stealth and deal damage in quick bursts, just give mesmers empathy or another anti melee skill from GW1
Last time I checked mesmers were able to use skills and abilities, unless this has been stealth-nerfed recently then it should still be the case.
Thief stealths.
Mesmer can’t summon phantsam or clones.
Mirror Images, Phantasmal Defender, Decoy and Phantasmal Disenchanter all summon clones and don’t require targets.
Thief blinds.
Mesmer still can’t summon phantasm or clones.
How does the thief blind? They are in stealth so their next attack will either stun/daze, bleed or backstab… otherwise they are doing it wrong, also see above about clones and you also have access to stealth.
Thief proceeds to kill mesmer by exploiting stealth/culling issue.
Mesmer uses it’s few AoE skills hoping to hit the thief.
So let me get this straight, the thief just magically kills the mesmer and the mesmer (you) do nothing? Sounds to me like this is a personal skill issue here.
Mesmer is downed.
Thief stealths.
Mesmer can’t use his down skill 2 since he can’t target.
Thief pikes.
So the thief uses shadow refuge just to get the stomp kill… fair enough as the mesmers downed #3 hits like a truck, also fair enough that the mesmer can’t target the thief with #2… when you consider the fact that the mesmer didn’t use any skills and abilities during the fight.
If you really want to find out what to do as a mesmer then roll a thief, go into WvW and get some utility skills and fight some mesmers, the you’ll find out that it doesn’t go the way you are suggesting.
I am anti-censorship, for it doesn’t make sense to pander to a minority.

culling issue
We are all waiting for this to get fixed. With baited breath. Please stop turning “culling sucks” into a class matchup issue.
~
Mesmer vs. thief in 1-on-1 is a matchup that depends heavily on builds, reaction time, and battlefield awareness. Mesmers have a lot of abilities that can make life difficult for thieves, and vice versa. If either player is ambushed, though, the fight is likely to be over quickly.
Per my sig I play a Thief and Mesmer both 80 in full exotics. Prior to the Nov. 15th patch Mesmers were 50/50 now they are more like 90/10 now, in my favor. The fact that they changed it so that we cannot spawn Phantasms when blinded has crippled shatter/Phantasm based Mesmers. While the changed can be viewed as a fix to one issue it creates a whole new one when it comes to the functionality of the class and it’s specs. My Thief is D/D spec 10/30/30 for constant stealth and blinding when I stealth and it’s sad how I can steam roll most Mesmers now. As a Mesmer one of the classes biggest faults (depending on spec) is condition removal and my Thief’s spec exploits the hell out that.
With that said when I do play my Mesmer (20/20/0/0/30) unless I’m blinded by a Thief or caught off guard in a crowd I kitten all over a lot of Thieves who are glass cannon spec, one Mind Wrack is enough to kill them it’s hilarious. As a Mesmer you have to use more than just your F1. F2-F4 are key to surviving against burst classes, you HAVE to use them. Distortion saves lives. The game needs balancing in many aspects and i hope Anet addresses this.
Mesmers should always win against backstab thieves. Against condition thieves…well…that’s a different story…
I play Mesmer. I don’t play thief.
I would rephrase the opening post as
“Mesmer sucks.
Thief wins.”
You can stealth. And blind (and confuse, if you want). And daze. And be totally invulnerable to damage. You act like blind negating phantasms means there’s nothing you can do. Maybe pvp is not for you.
Thieves have totally slaughtered my Mesmer. And I have totally slaughtered them. The phantasm change has probably made some un intended and strange consequences. It didn’t ruin us.
There are several people making assumptions about me from my OP. I’m speaking from what I’ve seen. Mesmer has been severely weakened by this patch. To the point that I get blinded every fight. Pretty much have to run the condition removal mantra as null field has a very long cool down and everyone knows mes are brought to their knees by blind spamming.
I’m a aware of many clones that can be summoned without a target, but most are situational. Plus, clones aren’t a source of dps unless you run a condition build and are using staff/scepter.
The fact of the matter is that mesmer has to do something no other class does. It has to land half of it’s skills twice. That’s twice the chance to block and dodge. Twice the chance to win. All it all it’s broken.
Half of mesmer dps comes from phantasms. Half of mesmer supporting traits depend on clones/phantasms. Phantasms can be killed and inflicted with conditions. Heck, I wouldn’t be opposed to having phantasms spawn with all the conditions the mes has at the moment of it’s creation. At least then it’d be there to use. Rather than this impulsive bull kitten fix to satisfy the QQ of non-mesmers. LoS issues is one thing. Phantasams not summoning on blind/block/dodge is another. It’s ridiculous and Anet should be ashamed of this half baked move.
