Heys guys I just started doing WvW on my thief since I heard they are good roamers but I’ve been getting owned by everything I fight. I’m playing s/d with lyssa runes and I’m just getting dominated by engineers and necros. Even if i cleanse the condi’s once they just spam them again. It’s unbelievable how fast they can kill me. Any tips on dealing with them and also any overrall tips for a new thief in wvw?

Slot D/P for the other weapon, so you can condition cleanse at will. Also get trait that’ll restore your health while stealthed.

Get sigil of superior bloodlust and kill every bunny you run accross along the way.

Get sigil of superior force also. Get power runes, eat lots of food like omnom berry pies and master maintainance oil and pray for the best.

Do not take acrobatics, that’ll not safe you. Pick zerker and and health runes, as armor is useless against necros. Engineers will be an even harder fight once they start camping. Your best hope of winning against engineer is to ambush them, while they’re not looking and hit as hard as possible and spam heart seeker before they can get all their defenses up. If they survive that, run!

Try running 0/30/20/20/0 d/p for a while. You can try 0/30/30/10/0 d/p also if you’re really careful with your initiative; it’s helpful to take some signets and the init on signet use trait. The first build gives you more dodges and initiative regen so it’s pretty forgiving of mistakes. The second build takes advantage of shadow rejuvenation while in stealth, which helps a whole lot with your sustain.

Until you get better get really used to #5->#2. Spend as little time visible as possible. Both those builds give you 100% chance to crit from stealth which is pretty helpful. Since you’re having trouble with damage conditions I’d suggest using hide in shadows and the trait that drops a condition on stealth.. I always use it when I trait into shadow arts.

Thieves have great mobility, if you don’t like how a fight is going switch to shortbow and reset it. Anet didn’t give us health, armor, stability, blocks, or invuln so I think it’s fair to run when necessary.

I don’t think you’ll like it as much as the other builds I mentioned but I run 10/30/0/0/30 in wvw and pvp. You spend less time in stealth and have less defense but kitten it packs a punch. The ability to interrupt heals is addicting.

Hope this helps.

Hi Nero

I would also recommend the D/P 0/30/20/20/0 build, of-hand doesn’t matter to much but SB is certainly a good choice. I started using it with full Valk. Armors and Ruby Orbs as well as full Zerker trinkets. This leaves you with a decent amount of HP and quite some decent DPS. Once you get the hang of the build and realize that you do not need that much hp you can switch to full zerker armor in order to improve your DPS.

I have tried a lot of builds including many different weapon sets. However, D/P is definitely the most balanced one and offers a skill for every situation: BS, HS for dmg; Shadowshot for Blind and Step; Head Shot for interrupting important enemy skills; and of course Black Powder for Blind and Stealth.

The rest is most up to you. Be aware though that the build requires a lot of initiative and things like Quick Recovery and Infusion of Shadow are must haves!
