Thief WvW gear?
intothemists.com is a good start for guides
Wish did a great guide on the optimal gear setup.

The actual build can be found here:

You can use ruby orbs instead of divinty, though I like traveler’s the best, but they’re super expensive. Also, the trinkes are ascended but you can start off with exotic. I got my full set of exotic trinks when I started for under 10g. Just do some dungeons/fractals if you need money fast. The main thing to note with this build is the use of soldier’s helm, chest, and pants. You sacrifice a small amount of offense, but gain more in defense.

OK thanks, I’m glad I asked this. Most builds I’m looking at in intothemists.com use zerker gear, but as I only have the exotic soldiers chest piece it looks like I can mix it up a bit like the build Quakeman linked to above and still be effective.
Do you buy those runes/orbs/accessories from the auction house or is there some vender that sells them? Also is there a vender that sells them for Karma or laurels? (I have about 50 gold and a fair bit or karma and laurels, but no special PVE/dungeon currencies)
Runes/orbs can be purchased off the tp. You can buy ascended trinkets with your laurels if you have enough. Lastly, you can get the other two soldier pieces of armor from temples in Orr with karma.
Can’t go wrong with PVT in Wv3 IMHO.

Your best bet is to do one of two things. If you prefer more damage, you can buy all ruby orbs from the trading post (about 16s each, fairly cheap) for your armor and trinkets. However I decided to do something different. I started with ruby orbs , and I used the sigil that increases your movement speed by 25% (name is slipping my mind sorry), but I soon realized how important it is to have 3 utility skills to use (makes a HUGE difference if you ask me), so I later opted to buy 6 superior runes of speed (cost me about 10g at the time) to get that passive 25% movement speed boost. The only reason I went for these instead of traveler’s runes is that they’re incredibly cheaper, and only reduce your dps by a little bit. I later bought full taveler’s runes (which imo are more useful that divinty runes), but the runes of speed served me very well while I used them. To summarize this, if you want more dps go ruby orbs, if you really like getting around quickly (because lets be honest who has time for walking super slow between places ) either get runes of speed, or traveler’s runes if you can afford them.

Be careful putting expensive runes on gear you buy with Karma or Badges as these can not be salvaged back!
Can’t go wrong with PVT in Wv3 IMHO.
That’s what I was told in game as well, but I don’t see any builds on intothemists etc that use that set up- also my damage at the moment is pitiful- against warriors they just stand in my blind stupidly but I can barely out damage their HS. Although that could be because I just have exotic weapons and one exotic armor (rest is"fine") and no food/gems/runes etc. I don’t know how much of a difference those things make yet.
Thanks for the other advice too Quake, Frans and Frigid- all extremely useful. I’ll try and pick up those runes of speed for now I think. It would be nice to have devourer venom on my bar instead of sig shadows.
The difference between rare (yellow) and exotic is quite substantial, between fine and exotic it is huge. You need to upgrade what you can. Exotics are a few fold per piece on the TP, with Karma you can buy pieces of temple armor in Orr.

Although you can Transmute, if you run into that situation.

If you are wearing blue armor (AKA “fine”) withour food or runes, you are going to get your kitten handed to you in WvW no matter what mods you have. Might as well be wearing printed toilet paper. The stat advantage that rares/exotics have over you in terms of stat budget is pretty significant, so don’t read too much into your performance until you’re wearing something reasonable.
In terms of mods, PVT Soldier’s is OK, but you don’t want to wear a full suit unless you are intending to have a blue dorito over your head and leads blobs to victory. My suggestion would be to use no more than just regular armor for PVT, and put serious damage on your weapons and trinkets (where most of the stats come from). I personally prefer Knight’s armor, and others like Valkyrie’s, but Soldier’s is perfectly defensible. Trinkets will usually want to be Berserker’s, with some wiggle room for exceptions, unless you have a condition-based build.

I highly suggest getting all exotic armor before adding runes to them. There’s a huge difference in stats. Also as far as warriors go, they’re hard in general for power thieves. Although I prefer D/D, I swap to D/P JUST for warriors. They get special treatment. (reason is for the large quantity of blinds w/ D/P). And you’re welcome, that’s why this forum exists after all :o

I think PVT doesn’t get a lot of love because it’s not fancy and there aren’t builds built up around it. I have zerker weapons, and zerker orbs on everything and usually run some form of power/direct damage build.
It’s a versatile set that can be used with different trait set ups and has survivability built in. The best I’ve found with it 0/20/30/20/0 which is very forgiving and has good damage potential if you can stay in the fight.
With PVT I’ve run trickery builds, venom share, and currently running a jack of all trades/master of nothing 15/20/20/15/0 for wv3 and it works fine. Sure other armor may be better at other things, but if you’re hurting for funds and/or time get PVT first and figure out what you want and where to optimize and go from there.
Also those folks telling you get to get PVT in map chat in Wv3… they are actively playing and not forum warriors like us
Wow, it is really boring running around in zergs trying to grind BoH to get enough gear to be able to play. I don’t know how you guys do it.
I wish I could just buy top gear for WvW with spvp glory and gold.
