Thief build : bers/valk or what?
1.) For D/D I think 25/30/x/x/x is better than 20/30/x/x/x. Expose Weakness (the 25 pt passive) is pretty much a straight 10% damage increase, there isn’t really anything else you could put those 5 points in that would get you as much bang for your buck (at least from a damage standpoint). Personally, I like 25/30/10/0/5 because it means 4 ini C&D (the 5 points in Trickery you can pretty much put anywhere. 5 more in Shadow Arts or 30 in Deadly Arts for +50 power works just as well).
2.) To be honest, survivability has always been an all-or-nothing thing for me. I never really saw a benefit in having only a few vit pieces, but that’s just my opinion.
3.) S/D is trades some damage for utility. Auto-attacks will be about the same, but Tactical Strike will do about half the damage of Backstab. The 2 sec daze on TS is amazing, so it’s up to you. I usually switch between the two, although lately I find myself using S/D the most.
4.) If you are going glasscannon, I believe the math points to Ruby Orbs being the best.

Combo of Soldier/Knight
You could use some valkyrie pieces for extra HP, but make sure you don’t lower your critical rate too much (aim for at least 45%)
D/D is better than S/D for wvw.
I’d suggest you start out with ruby orbs. They’re pretty good and cheap, you can change them out later, when you made up your mind (but I wouldn’t recommend eagle runes).
Combo of Soldier/Knight
Eww, on a guardian or warrior maybe, but not on a burst thief.

for Runes, I use Divinity, but have been told Scholars are better (I think that’s up for debate).
Pain Train Choo [Choo]
Mind Smack – Mesmer
For a full burst thief Scholar is the best because of the fact that if you burst and are above 90% HP you will do a metric kittenton of damage.
Switching some pieces of Berserker out for Valkyrie is ok’ish. I’ve tried it but it didn’t really feel like any different. Sure I would have 14,5k instead of 10k but I would still die as fast but somehow feel a lot less powerful.
If you are going to roll Berserker just go full and take the “5% prec = vit” trait to get around 12k. If you want survivability go full Carrion cond spec. Thieves really only have 2 viable options, burst or condition dam. I’m leaving out S/D because after the nerf it feels boring.
Whatever you do don’t go for the badge set because you might have high survivability but you will be unable to kill anything.

Keep on thinking that thieves can’t be tanky and successful I’ll keep on curbstomping berserker thieves ;-D
If you are going for a d/d burst build I would suggest not to worry so much about precision and focus more on power + crit dmg. I say this because with the 100% crit. chance while in stealth trait you will backstab like a truck. Guaranteed crit. on BS > crit. chance. Berserker gear for some precision and scholar runes for the power and crit dmg + 10% more dmg while above 90% hp does ceeerazy dmg.
Traits should be 25/30/x/x/x as mentioned above. Deadly arts should be mug, dagger training and exposed weakness. Critical strikes should be signets of power, side strike and hidden killer. If you decided to go with trickery for your last 15 you will mostly always have 10% added dmg to this build due to first strikes. Pure glass cannon build that will hit people so hard their interwebs will disconnect and then you will die shortly after XD.
I, like Adaneshade prefer a more condition/tanky build thief for wvw/spvp but I switch back and forth.

Ty for suggestion. Btw, is it true that the higher Ruby Orb, that is, Exquisite Ruby Jewel http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Exquisite_Ruby_Jewel cannot be added to armor?
Is there anything higher/better than Ruby Orb stats that can be added to armor (besides runes)? Thanks
Thank u all for the advice i think i’ll go D/D with an high burst damage, maybe 25/30/0/0/15,probably i’ll try many armor sets to understand how i prefer to play with…Ruby Orbs are really good,i’ll do some test with them in wvwvw

Ruby orbs are the best gems you can put in armor.
The jewels are for trinkets (amulet, ring, earring) only.
Divinity runes have better all around stats in total, but less power/precision.
Scholar runes are better when you’re at full hp, but worse when you’re not.

Tanky thieves can work (especially when condition spec’d), but on a burst build, you preferably want to kill your opponent before you run out of initiative. Keep this in mind, a 3k heartseeker costs the same amount of initiative as a 6k heartseeker.

You are assuming the OP wants to be a heartseeker spamming noob. He did mention an interest in S/D…….I run S/D with soldier/knight and absolutely destroy any thief in berserker gear due to the fact they simply can’t burst me down.

I was looking at the original post and basing my advice on his almost completed berserker set. I used heartseeker as an example, because backstab itself doesn’t use any initiative and CnD would sound silly.
So you admit then that, initiative isn’t really an issue, with C&D + backstab being the bread and butter of any D/D player with half a clue?

I admit nothing without my lawyer present. I may be a thief, but I’m not confessing anything else.
…and now I’m lost
lol we all are :-P
